Can't get usenet to work with sabnzbd on asus ac68u

Hi! I am new to this forum but it seems like the best place to ask my question, so:

With my old BT home hub 3, I had usenet working (provider usenetserver.com) with sabnzbd+ running on my Synology diskstation 413j via a syno community package. However when I switched to the Asus AC-68u (stock firmware), usenetserver has stopped working. Contacting their tech support, the only advice they could offer was trying a number of other SSL and non-SSL port numbers, which didn't work. My sabnzbd+ setup screenshot is attached.

I'm on windows 8.1 and all devices, firmware and software are up to date as of today. The diskstation is connected to a netgear hub, which is connected to the asus router by cat6 cables. The router is connected to BT infinity broadband.

Can anyone advise me on what I need to do, to get usenetserver working? Is there something I need to change in the router settings or sabnzbd settings? Or any suggestions on how to troubleshoot this to work out the cause of the problem?

You don't need any changes in your router.

Questions / tests:
Can you successfully install & use SABnzbd on your Windows 8 machine?
On you Syno, in SABnzbd ->Server, what happens when you click on "Test Server"?

Hi, thanks for the reply.

To answer your questions -

1. When I click on test server, there is quite a long delay before the message:

http://192.168.1.68. Invalid server address

That address is the address of my disk station.

2. When I install sabnzbd on my MacBook Air osx 10.9.1' it works fine. I havent tried it on my windows 8.1 machine and would prefer not to as it's a work machine. But if needs be I can.

Any suggestions?

If you're sure the server FQDN / name is correct, the cause is SAB on your Synology cannot lookup the IP address of the newsserver name. That can be caused because it can't reach a nameserver, or it has no Internet connection at all.

To check if it's only your nameserver, fill out the IP address of the newsserver as newsserver name. EDIT: so: 81.171.92.239

If you can get a telnet/ssh interface on your Synology, it's easy to check if it has Internet: ping www.google.com

Hi, thanks. Although I don't have telnet I checked and noticed that no internet functions on the diskstation work so I think it's not connecting. I did recently change the ip to static but that shouldn't make a difference. I'll contact synology support and see if they can help solve this. Thank you for your help again!

If you have set a static IP on your Synology, did you take care of setting the default gateway and namerserver. Because that's normally done by DHCP.

To use SABnzbd and to access it from your LAN, you don't need portforwarding.
