Cannot Get SABnzbd To Download

Post by Nethecite »

I've seen many other posts similar to this, but haven't found a solution to my problem. I apologize in advance if it's been answered and I simply missed it, or am too dumb to know I read it.

I have space on a Debian server where I have installed SABnzbd. Install goes fine, server shows connected. I then try and download a file. First, it tells my I have zero free space. Reading other posts, I changed the download directories, which solved that problem, but the file still doesn't download. It shows, as others have described, that it's downloading (not queued, not paused), but nothing happens. Restarting didn't help.

Checking the settings that were recommended from other posts, Minimum Free Space is disabled, I disabled SSL, just in case. I cleared both the old and new download folders as well as the ~/.sabnzbd folder and reinstalled. Same thing.

Checking the logs, I didn't see anything that would stop downloading, either. The only warnings were for yenc and par2, which I have not yet installed (don't have root permission at the moment). At this point, I'm not really sure where to look next. Any help would be appreciated.

In Config -> Server, when you click on "Test Server", what happens?

Good. What is the number of connections you have filled out at Config -> Server?

And: Can you post a screendump of your main SABnzbd screen? If there is any sensitive information in the screendump (for example the name of the download), please black-out that information before posting.

Currently I have 15 connections set (my host allows up to 30) I tried setting it to 1, just to see if it would make a difference, but no luck.

Thank you for taking a look at it.

Trying out just 1 connection was a good idea. Pity it did not solve the problem.
In this situation I would restart SABnzbd, but you have already done that.

Regarding your screendump:
- there is an item in the queue, so that's good.
- not globally paused, not paused per item
- the warning seems innocent. However: how did you install SABnzbd on Debian? I guess not via the (Ubuntu) Package, as that would have installed par2 automatically.
- Can you install par2? And can you post the log of SABnzbd starting up to see if there are any messages?

I installed on Debian with wget from the sourceforge repos, I believe. I can't install par2 and yenc yet because I don't have enough permission on the drive (both require sudo). I have a service ticket in with the provider to take care of that.

I'll restart and post a log when I get some time to log in this afternoon. Thanks again.

Quick update. par2 and yenc installed, still nothing.

Also, the watch folder is not being scanned. I set one up using an absolute path to test it, put in a different nzb, and nothing. So, the queue is remaining idle, even when there are files in it, and the watch folder does not send new nzb's to the queue.

OK, I've messed with it some more, and now have some rather odd behavior to report, and I'm now sure how I am launching the app is the problem.

To launch it, I ssh into my slot on the server and run:

screen -S sabnzbd -fa -d -m python SABnzbd-0.6.9/SABnzbd.py --server <myserver>:PORT

so that I can then log into a web browser and pull up the web interface. This is where everything displays fine, but doesn't actually run.

Now, if I just launch it without detaching the screen, using:

python SABnzbd-0.6.9/SABnzbd.py --server <myserver>:PORT

then I get to view it through Lynx, in all it's glory... :P the interface requires Javascript, so Lynx doesn't do well. The odd behavior comes when I quit Lynx. That is when my queue (queued up in the web interface that doesn't download anything) starts. It downloads and decodes just fine. The program doesn't end, though. It sits there and waits for more stuff to be added to the queue. At this point, I can't access the web portal, and can't do anything but quit out of SABnzbd. When I do that, I have to manually kill the process and restart it before I can log back in. Shutting down in the web interface yields the same thing. I still have to manually kill the process.

The web interface,at this point, will reflect the changes in the history, but still show the file in the queue and still not actually allow anything to download. If I stay in the Lynx interface, the same thing. It is only when I leave the Lynx page that anything processes.

So, all that being said, I tried launching it as a daemon....

And it worked. Still some bugs, but I think I can figure those out on my own. Thanks for the help, and I hope this helps some other poor schmuck who runs into this.
