Cannot get SAB to start

I'm at a loss here. I've been using SAB for a couple of years and think it's great. Suddenly, however, it doesn't want to run at all. I'm running Win7 Ultimate 32 and using Thunderbird as a browser. I'm using Windows Defender for virus protection and Windows Firewall. I checked the SAB.ini file (after I finally found it) and noticed that password and name were already set to '' ''. I also noticed while I was in the .ini file it has all the necessary info and passwords for nzb downloading. After the problems started I deleted the program and downloaded the latest version 0.6.14. I did a reboot and used CCCleaner clean the registry in case there was a SAB error there.

When I tried to start SAB again, I got the request for a name and password even though it shouldn't have asked according to the .ini settings. At this point I'm stymied. What do I try now. I will point out my router (Netgear WNDR3700) rebooted recently and I've made no setting in it for SAB, mainly because I don't know what to do and never had to do anything before. I'd certainly appreciate any help with this problem.

You say "SAB.ini"; really, or do you mean sabnzbd.ini?
You got a request for a name and password; was that in your browser? If so, SABnzbd *is* running.

Brute force method to so solve forgotten name/password password problems: stop SABnzbd (via process manager), find & remove sabnzbd.ini, and start SABnzbd; it will start the setup wizard.

Make sure SABnzbd is not running, use the Windows Task Manager if needed.
Then use the Windows StartMenu to look for "SABnzbd - Safe Mode".
Start that. It should remove the username/password and will use a safe IP address (127.0.0.1)

I used the Safe Mode method and that worked to get me a browser page. I'm rather lost at this point because the page is totally different than what I'm used to but I'm sure it won't take long to get used to it. However, Sickbeard isn't connecting with SABnzbd and SABnzbd is giving me a message: HTTP and HTTPS ports cannot be the same. I understand the meaning but have no idea what to do about it. SABnzbd browser's url is: http://127.0.0.1:8080/sabnzbd/ The download page also states it downloaded two files while I couldn't see it on screen and before I got the above message but I haven't been able to find them if in fact they did download. Any thoughts on what I can do to get Sickbeard and SABnzbd to connect?

OK, I think I figured out the WARNING message about HTTP and HTTPS. Both of those fields in configuration had a 8080 entry so I took the one out of the HTTPS field and restarted SABnzbd and the warning disappeared. Sickbeard is telling me it is "unable to connect to SAB: socket error. What do I need to change to get them linked. I certainly appreciate the help on this forum...I could be at this for days, otherwise!

If you enabled HTTPS and have no specific HTTPS port set,
you will only be able to connect over HTTPS.

Almost have it completed. Connection problem was due to a missing password. Now everything is working fine except the post processing isn't happening. That's not horribly critical since I have the programs to take care of that manually, but I'm used to SABnzbd doing it for me. I think I've checked all the appropriate boxes under switches/post processing, so what am I missing?

Check whether jobs enter the queue with the attribute +Delete.
Also you need to enable unrar and unzip, but those are on by default.

Making sure the +Delete was indicated solved the problem. I do have one more set of warnings being sent. I'm now perfectly happy with the downloads but I noticed there were a series of warning like this: 2011-12-21 00:33:51,871 ERROR: Saving C:\Users\jim\AppData\Local\sabnzbd\admin\totals9.sab failed
I have no idea what that means or whether it is important. I notice the warnings disappeared after the downloading was completed. Again, much thanks for the help.

Rather weird error, it means that Windows doesn't allow the file totals9.sab to be saved
to your profile. This is a transient error, because the action will be done each time a download completes.
The file stores the downloaded byte counters.

Thanks for the info. I will just ignore the warnings unless I start noticing tendrils of smoke coming from the computer. Again, thanks for all the help.
