can't open SABnzbd in browser and won't download

i just moved to a new apartment that has FiOS internet...a test earlier showed that i am downloading at 32Mb, and uploading at 30Mb...wicked fast!

i just tried to see how that will affect my nab download speed, but after starting SABnzbd and pointing my browser to "localhost:8080" i get a page that says: "Safari can't open the page http://localhost:8080", because Safari can't connect to the server 'localhost'."

the menu bar icon of SABnzbd is showing, but if i open one of my older nzb's, the menu status menu shows that it's not downloading at all...all numbers at "0".

since i don't have the login/password to the FiOS router (yet), i can check whether ports need to be opened, or what...but does that sound like a configuration error, or what could it be? why can't it even the SABnzbd server page, like it did on this very machine just two days ago at my old place?

any ideas what to try/do anyone?

No ports need to be opened on the router.
Does the browser show SABnzbd's UI when you use the top menu bar icon?
Try these URLs in Safari:
http://127.0.0.1:8080/sabnzbd
http://[::1]:8080/sabnzbd

no, the UI won't show in the browser on the iMac...i already deleted SABnzbd.app, re-downloaded and re-installed it, but it won't open to the Setup Wizard, like it usually does...the menu bar icon is showing, but i have no way of reaching the server through the browser and configure it.

also, what's strange is that i just tried it on my MacBook Pro, which is using a WiFi Internet Sharing connection from the iMac (as opposed to an ethernet connection, ike the iMac), and the MBP *did* let me install the SABnzbd.app, went straight to the Setup Wizard page in my browser, and when i opened one of my NZB's on it, it started downloading at up to 2.5M/sec., like i had hoped.

why not the iMac...could the ethernet vs. WiFi have anything to do with it?

You probably have entered the IP address instead of localhost when you installed SABnzbd.
The quickest fix is to:
- stop SABnzbdd
- remove the file /Users/user/Library/Application Support/SABnzbd/sabnzbd.ini
You will use all your setting, but the next time you start SABnzbd, the Wizard will pop up.

Note that /Users/user/Library is a hidden folder.
The easiest way is to open a Terminal (Programs->Utilities) and type:
rm "~/Library/Application Support/SABnzbd/sabnzbd.ini"

you are a master, sir! be it the squeezeserver forums, the unRAID threads, or here at SABnzbd, you master admins and moderators know your stuff, and never seize to amaze me...even though that one was probably kid-stuff for you, shypike.

your suggestion worked perfectly, and i am now downloading at 5MB/sec...my first abode with FiOS, and so far i can't believe my eyes.
now if only my production/design server in Germany was hooked up to something like this, a truly viable production workflow while on the road would be possible...even with my video-productions (at least proxy resolution during the citing stages)...some day soon.

thanks, shypike!
