Strange download speed problem and wizard setup

Post by iknowgungfu »

Hi all,
Hoping someone here can help me as I am going insane.

First of all I have a slightly older version of SABNZB installed on my Macbook Pro that works without any issues whatsoever. I get between 1.5 MB/s to 2mb/s downloading whenever I use it. On my W7 64 bit PC (i5 2500K, 4GB Ram) my download speed shoots to about 900 kb/s and then steadily declines over time. Sometimes it shoots up again but drops soon after and usually grinds to a halt until I restart Sannzb.

Under the connections tab it lists each connection to the file downloading. Some have blank filenames? Then some are also listed a server timed out (this NEVER happens on the Macbook). The server connections tests fine and I am using SSL for both computers under the same port.

So, I thought I would uninstall the W7 version and re install. After the install it tries to load the wizard but I get a connection error when loading into localhost etc. Any ideas how to sort this? Also, are there any ideas as to what could be causing the original download speed problem.

The macbook downloads via my home wi-fi whereas the PC is wired (I should add that on my previous Vista PC sabnzb was working perfectly too.)

Thanks in advance.

I've solved the wizard problem. For some reason I had to open sabnzb with IT rather than Opera (even though after the wizard is complete I can use the web interface fine with Opera).

The strange download speeds are still occurring though :(

Unless you have some bizarre software firewall and/or virus scanner, I don't know.
Most development on SABnzbd is done on Windows 7 x64.
Standard tips:
- Use an article cache (Config->General)
- Don't overdo the amount of server connections (between 4 and 10).
- Wired instead of wireless (but you already do that)

Cheers for the response.

I have already checked what you suggest. As far as I can see my firewall isn't causing a problem (Windows Firewall and netgear router). It is driving me absolutely insane.
When the download stops I sometimes get a connection time out from the status page. Also, under the column that normally lists which file part it is downloading there is nothing there...it just says none.

Ignore the "None", that just means that the article isn't stored in a disk file.
They shouldn't be on disk anyway, because you're using an article cache.
Virus scanner?
Some are over eager to scan growing downloaded files.

I think it is to do with my Ethernet. My MacBook runs at full speed via wireless. When I plug in the same Ethernet cable (and disable wireless) I get the same problem. I currently use networking over mains with a plug adapter and I think the problem is here.

It is fine for gaming etc but download speed is much slower. On speedtest.net I get between 6-8 mb/s on pc and MacBook. With wireless on the MacBook I get between 15-18 mb/s. It must be interference over the power lines. Not sure why the connection drops to zero sometimes as when playing games I don't get a laggy game at all.

I don't have a wireless card to test on
my pc though but I think the MacBook has shown the problem. If oblymy main phone point was in my study rather than downstairs in my lounge :(

Cheers for the advice though. I'll keep my MacBook as my downloader from now on.
