DL Using more bandwidth than expected

Hi All,

I'm a bit new to the whole NZB thing, I've been dabbling for a year or so, but now I've decided to make it my main means of DL. The problem is that it seems that there is a lot of data being wasted.

I am currently using SABnzbd to DL files because it is good at unpacking and sorting. After a file is finished you can see how much data it actually took to DL in the history section. Files that should be less that 200MB are taking an average of 850MB to DL and more importantly much more time than they should.

I'm hoping that this is a problem with my settings or something.

Is this actually normal? Has anyone got any ideas about what I can do?

Thanks

I have no idea what you mean.
Can provide any evidence?
Like snapshots of a SABnzb history entry?
How do you determine how much was downloaded?

sure, you can see wHAT i MEAN HERE: http://postimage.org/image/2d242vd44/

The first two files should have been about 190 MB.

I've no idea where your getting the NZB's from. I got those from NZBmatrix and they were around the 190MB mark. What size does SAB report them when they are in the queue? Does the size in the queue differ from the size in the history?

I would be concerned with download speed. 19KB/s is reminiscent of dial-up speeds. Even with 1MB broadband you should get about 125KB/s. Who is your news provider and how many connections are you using?

Thanks for noticing about the speed, I live in South Africa and internet is v.slow here. I have a 384 line and am on the waiting list for a 1024 line.

In the Queue the job reports at 190MB, the history says +- 850MB

I'm getting the NBZ from NBZrUS. I am using Thundernews with many connections, might that be the problem?

I just grabbed those nzb's from NZBsRus and they came down with a size of around 190MB. Have you looked at the files that were downloaded? Are there multiple copies of the same files in your download folder?

With usenet, more is not always best. I would try with only 2 connections to see if that increases your speed any.

I'll try that and let you know. Is there anywhere that explains optimal settings for things like number of connections in simple terms?

Thanks

Not that I'm aware of. Just start low and increase connections until your speed max's out for your broadband service. To be honest, I'd possibly start out with just one connection with your broadband.

Can you email the NZB you used (850 instead of 190) to bugs at sabnzbd.org ?

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the help, dropping the number of connections has sorted this out. I don't really know why, but it has.

Thanks so much again.

That's good to hear, but I don't undterstand why. What speeds are you now getting and is the download file size correct?

I was able to get the same speeds with fewer connections. the downloaded file sizes are significantly smaller, only about 10-20% overhead

Thanks
