Speed Issues and Sorting

I recently switched to SAB and just want to say what an excellent bit of kit. Can't beleive i havn't heard of it all this time.

First off - I used to download with newsbin pro and would get an average speed of 1.6MBps but since switching to sab my download speed has changed to 1.3MBps and i can't figure out why. My line is still configured at 13.5mbps which should give me around 1.6MBps. Is there any specific ports sab needs opened or any options which may effect the download speed?

Second - How is the sorting for the movies handled? I have my movies set to be placed in a folder on my NAS and named to the title once downloaded. Some movies will contain just the title e.g. Inception.mkv and some will contain the original name Inception.720p.DTS.mkcv etc.

How does sab determine and rename the movie?

Version: 0.6.9
OS: Windows XP SP3
Install-type: Windows Installer
Skin (if applicable): Plush
Firewall Software: XP SP2 Firewall
Are you using IPV6? No

Thanks in advance.

1. SABnzbd is less efficient because it's written in an interpreted vs. compiled programming language.
It depends very much on the power of your hardware.
Two important tunings: the article cache in Config->General should be -1 (if you have lots of memory) or something like 100M.
Tune the number of connections per server. using the maximum allowed isn't always the best choice.
The optimal number depends very much on the Usenet provider.
Start with 8.

2. The sorting methods are deep and mysterious.
I didn't write them myself and they can be as surprising for me as for any user.
Seriously, I would need more info to say anything about it.

Thanks for the reply.
Hardware is a Dual Core 1.8Ghz with 2GB RAM and 300GB hard drive. The number of connections is currently set to 8 and was also set to 8 in newsbin.

Lol looks like i'll just have to put up with that one :)

-1 if you aren't short of memory.
This will allow all articles of a complete file to be kept in memory,
greatly reducing disk access. This will usually set you back about 150M.
