complete noob so sorry if this is dumb question. I have been trying to download a nzb and keep getting "did not pass SFV checker" as the error message. Repair doesn't fix it. What does it mean and what can I do to fix it?

This is bad news: it means that the files contain errors or are incomplete.
Also, there are no par2 files available for repair (otherwise SFV would not have been used).
What you can do is turn off the SFV check in Config->Switches and click "Retry" in History.
However: you should realize that the files are very likely damaged.
