Slow downloadspeed after "too many connections to server"

Hello all,
I'm using Supernews (part of Giganews) as newsgrabber. Normally my downloadspeed fluctuates between 1.4 mb/s and 1.9 mb/s, last night I got an error saying "too many connections to server" and my downloadspeed dropped to like 150 kb/s. Supernews allowes for 20 connections, which were set as default. I tried switching to 15, even to 8, but to no avail. I tried rebooting SAB, or my pc, but that didn't work either.
I used speedtest.net to test my downloadspeed and it said my downloadspeed was 11 mb/s, which is more or less what it is supposed to be.
I disabled the "Only Get Articles for Top of Queue" option, so that can't be it.
Anyone else have any idea what could be the problem?

Additional information:
I tried using different NZB files although all were within my server's retention time, but that didn't change anything.

Is your ISP doing traffic shaping for torrents and Usenet?
On what kind of hardware do you run SABnzbd?
Did you try a restart of your modem/router?
Which timeout did you set in the server setup?
Are you mixing up bits/sec and bytes/sec, because SABnzbd uses bytes/sec?
Disabling "Only Get Articles for Top of Queue" option can only make matters worse.

Thanks for your quick reply.
As far as I know, my ISP doesn't do traffic shaping. I never encountered any problems before with it either.
I run SAB on a VAIO Laptop Intel i5 M 560 2.67 Ghz 500 GB HDD 4 GB RAM
I just reset my router, no change.
My timeout is set to 120 seconds
What do you by mixing up?
I just enabled "Only Get Articles for Top of Queue" again, now change yet.

You did try to restart SABnzbd (or the computer), I assume?
You first say your line speed is 11 mb/sec and that SABnzbd normally reaches upto 1.9 mb/sec.
With an i5 cpu, you should be able to reach your maximum linespeed.
It could be that your line speed is 11Mbits/sec and SABnzbd's speed is 1.9Mbytes/sec.
BTW: I hope you're not downloading over WiFi, because then all bets are off.

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that I am indeed downloading over a wireless network. I know downloadspeeds can fluctuate over a wireless network, but I didn't think it could be this much?

Okay, I doubt it has something to do with my internet connection (WiFi or not) because the problem is still there. It could have been a temporary relapse in downloadspeed or something, but apparently that isn't the case. The rest of my dorm doesn't seem to have a problem either...

The same error message is given when encountering lots of failed articles. Failed as in they're either outside your retention or just uploaded badly/corrupted. Atleast this is my experience, this has nothing to do with sab I suppose, since I had the same issue with Newsleecher (which I used before I discovered sab).

I know, but that isn't the case with me. Before the same NZB's used to download fine, and I tried different NZB's just to be sure. Downloadspeed is still around 150 kb/s, does no one know anything that might help me?

I was on 0.6.4, after the problems I upgraded to .5, hoping it might solve the problem. But it didn't.
