Help needed: Low speeds with SABNZBD

Post by Milad »

Hi guys...
Having serious speed issues with SAB...
Newsprovider is supernews. Unilimited speed. Software is installed on my Win7 laptop with 8GB RAM, SSD HDD and i7 processor and installed on my Synology DS1511+
On my synology the average speed is around 2MB/s (was around 6MB/s this week), while the built in client downloads at 9MB/s. Now the speed is around 2MB/s.
On my laptop the speed is about 4MB/s....Internet speed is good, newsprovider doesn't cap anything (proof is the Synology built in software)....

Have tested everything, and have run out of options now....Has anyone got a bright idea...?
Thanks...

Which version are you using?
SABnzbd uses more CPU than some other Usenet clients,
so the Synology CPU will be a bottleneck.
Your laptop should be able to get to the max linespeed, unless
you're using wireless.
If SABnzbd's speed drops on both your Synology and your laptop,
this is a clear indication that something else is going on.

The point is, I have seen speeds around 6MB/s on the Synology. But it has gone down since a couple of days....And the resource monitor on the Synology shows very low CPU and Mem usage.
I have updated to version 0.6.2, on both laptop and synology, but it didn't help.
Laptop is connected with cat6 for testing. And I can copy with over the 100MB/s from laptop to Synology...

I have started the built in NZB client simultaneously with SABnzbd on the Synology, and the built in is doing around 7,5MB/s and SAB is doing 1,5MB/s :(

The synology has  a Intel Atom dual core 1.8 GHz processor, and CPU utilization is about 40% during simoultaneous download (builtin client and SAB)

You said the laptop also has a lower speed all of a sudden.
SABnzbd doesn't change spontaneously
and it would be a great coincidence if both the laptop and the NAS work slower
all of a sudden.
I'm not saying SABnzbd isn't a factor, but something else has changed too.
You can try to clear the queue.
Stop SABnzbd and wipe everything in the cache folder.
This will remove the whole queue.

BTW: I don't get why your laptop only gets to 4 MB, while your NAS had 6 MB.
Wireless?

Laptop gets to 9.7 MB/s now with SAB, wired, so does the Synology with the built in client, but not with SAB....

SABnzbd on the Synology will never match that of the built-in client.
I also don't know what speed to expect from it.
BTW running both clients at the same time makes them compete for resources.
What speed do you get when you run SABnzbd alone?
