Repair failed, not enough repair blocks errors

Post by xeddog »

I did a search on this problem but did not find a satisfactory answer.  I get this error on almost every movie nzb I try to download.  I am running sabnzbd+ on a Ubuntu Linux Maverick machine.  I-7 processor with 6GB ram, plenty of HD space,  sabnzbd+ 0.6.0RC2, and a good solid 20Mbps Internet connection.  I am using UseNetServer as my usenet site, and have a vip account at nzbmatrix for indexing.  I also use SickBeard for downloading tv shows, and this has been flawless.  For movies I have tried using CoachPotato, and also downloading the nzb directly from nzbmatrix.  For a particular movie, I have tried using several different nzb's in several different resolutions, and a good 90% of them will fail with the subject error only varying the number of missing blocks.

I have seen references to a couple of switch settings in sabnzbd+, and I have tried several different things and nothing I have tried yet makes any difference at all.  I have also seen a couple of references to older versions that say to upgrade to (for example) Beta 3.  Well, I'm on RC2.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Wayne

Our normal reaction to "missing articles" claims is: prove that it's caused by SABnzbd.
That's because 99% of the time it isn't.
The only real way to determine it, is by using an alternative program to download using the exact same NZB file.

There has been a nasty bug in one of the Beta's, but that happened only under
specific and rare circumstances (the "send group" option was on).

If the download isn't very big, you can email the NZB to bugs at sabnzbd.org
(We don't check 25G downloads :) )

I did as you suggested and used nntpgrab to download the same nzb's.  Out of the six that I tried, one did complete and the others failed in the same way.  I only had the number of missing blocks written down for one nzb, and the count was the same with nntpgrab.  It just seemed very odd that I get a 100% success rate with tv shows and a 90+% failure rate with movies, so I guess I was looking for something to do with larger file sizes or ????.  I have tried to download 9 different movies using at least 20 different nzb's and only ONE completed successfully.  For a few of the nzb's, I logged into nzbmatirx and looked at the comments.  Most of them that had comments were all stating either how good the download was, or perhaps how bad the image was or something, but they were able to download it.  I can't.

One other thing I tried for a couple of them was to find the torrent with the same name and downloading it with Vuze.  I know that this isn't really a diagnostic tool, but it would be from the same uploader at least.  I was able to successfully download 3 of the movies this way even though it took a good deal longer to do.  I guess I just might have to go back to torrents.  :-(

Oh well,  back to the drawing board.

Hi Wayne, I had usenetserver for about half a year and they had a ton of missing files on anything I downloaded, switched to astraweb and no problems at all since. I suggest trying another Usenet provider like I did. Good luck.

Oh that's just ducky.  I never read anything negative about UseNetServer before I signed up.  People only had positive things to say about it.  And it works great for tv shows.  I can even get some of them before they air in my timezone.  But movies??  I have tried several more movies and the 90%+ failure rate still holds.  I have contacted UseNetServer to see what they say.

Thanks,

Wayne

Maybe they get many DMCA takedown requests?
Just guessing.

Hi Wayne, yeah I downloaded tv shows fine as well with UNS, but movies and games would always have problems (missing parts but would repair with par2), like a quarter or more of them would be unrepairable and by the time I switched it was getting worse. On nzbmatrix there's a thread on UNS and people are saying its a Highwinds server and they are plagued with DMCA takedowns like shypike is saying, here's a list of providers and their servers : http://www.newsgroupservers.net/newsgro ... _resellers , on nzbmatrix they say the giganews and astraweb server have the least DMCA takedowns.
