how to download different files on all simultaneous connections??

Hi!
I'm running 0.5.6 on Mac OSX 10.6.7 and recently upgraded my internet speed from 4MB/s to 16MB/s. Unfortunately sabnzb didn't profit from that upgrade - it's still downloading at the same speed (around 4MB/s).
Only now I've realized that sabnzb is trying to download the same file on all 10 simultaneous connections (I've set 10 connections in the server settings). Does that mean it's downloading differnet parts of the same file on the 10 differnet connections? (see attached screenshot) Or does it mean that only one connection is active and the other 9 are being blocked from my usenet provider (newshosting).
I've tried unison and it's downloading 10 different files/rar-parts on all 10 connections, thus maxing out my 16MB/s bandwidth.
Just tried to upgrade to 0.6.0beta4 - same problem. ony one connection is downloading.
help, anyone?!
thank you!

What you describe is normal behaviour.
SABnzbd tries to ask for an article on every connection it has.
The server doesn't mind, because Usenet providers
have no concept of "files", they know only articles.
SABnzbd isn't exactly a speed king, but your low performance
surprises me, because my own miniMAC is quite capable
of saturating my 100MBit/sec connection with about 11MByte/sec.
BTW: are you talking of bits or bytes per second?

what speed does your usenet provider says you should get on your account ?
Using SSL or non-ssl ?

thanx for the reply! pretty weird, eh? I've had a 40Mbit/s connection before and was downloading at about 3-4MByte/s. After the upgrade to 120Mbit/s it's still at roughly 4-5MByte/s whereas unison downloads the same articles at 12-14MByte/s now.
I can see that unision is downloading 10 different articles with its 10 connections, sabnzb+ only tries to download one article on all 10 connections.
if I limit sabnzb+ to only 1 connection, I get the same speed of 4-5MB/s
.
I've tried with non-ssl as well as with ssl - no speed differences. my usenet provider promises to max out my download capabilities - which is true but only if I use unison.
can I set sabnzb+ to download 10 different articles simultaneously instead of only one?

It already does that. If you look at the "Connections" page, you'll see different article numbers.
Only you have lots of very small NZB files, then it might work a bit sub-optimal.
Check the setting "Only get articles for top of the queue" in Config->Switches. This should be "Off"!

thanks shypike for your help and explaining! much appreciated :)
yes, I've set "only get articles for top of queue" to OFF, but still slow downloads.
below is a screenshot of my current connections. all rar files are 103 MB in size. for me it looks like sabnzb+ is using its 10 connections to download different parts of ONE rar file, ie part004.rar. ???
unison is using one connection for each rar-file, ie. one connection is downloading part004.rar the second connection is downloading part005.rar, third connection is downloading part006.rar . . . .
can i force sabnzb+ to do that too? Or is there any other reason why sabnzb+ is significantly slower?
I'd rather keep using sabnzb+ as the automatic post processing is so much more convenient than unison's.

Like I said before: the order makes no difference.
SABnzbd is inherently slower than Unison because it's written in a slower programming language.
Nevertheless, it should be easy to get a decent speed on your system.
Have you tried to increase the amount of connections? Don't overdo it, steps of 5 is enough.

yep, I've tried 1 connection as well as 5, 10, 15 . . . up to 30 (=max. for my account)
no difference. the max.download rate i get with sabnzb+ is 3.5 MB/s :(

One remark that I forgot before.
Set an article cache in Config->General.
If you have plenty of memory, set it to -1 (which effectively is about 150M).
This will greatly reduce disk access.

oh wow . . . that helped a little

With the article cache set to 1GB and 30 connections I get a download rate of 10MB/s.
With 10 connections I'm getting 8MB/s.
Not quite the 15 MB/s of unison . . . but getting there

any more tweak tips, shypike?
Thanks again for your time and help!
