slow connection/ blocked ports ?

After resetting my router I had endless problems getting my normal speed.

1)    I tried another reader-  grabbit and it runs like a tram- also slow
2) I tested the connection- speedtest -  and get a  stable 8-10 meg connection
3) Everything works fine except for my newsgroups, they are either idle or run at bits/kbs per second, a fraction of my normal speed
4) I started on a process of elimination:
a. Firewalls are not the problem
b. Anti- virus is not the problem
c. News reader is not the problem
d. The router is not the problem ( I borrowed another router and tried that one – the problem persisted)
5) As a last resort I tried another ISP, bought a gig from them and tried the new account, it ran at full speed. So its something between my router and isp

I am guessing that my isp is not shaping me so the problem could lie with the ports that the newsreader is using?

Please advise in this and what I can do from my side to solve this ? Something happened when I restet my router, I left something out?

Most Usenet providers offer other ports besides the standard 119.
Try one of those (often 563 for SSL, some even offer 80).
Have you talked to your internet provider yet?

I have- have it set to 8080 at the moment. Will play around and see if I have more luck!
