Newbie, Speed Issue.

Hello, I thought I'd give SAB a try, however I've run into a wee issue and would be grateful for some advice.

I've installed 0.5.6 and entered my Astraweb server details (not using SSL and using the european server address). I seem to be having difficulty with download speed. SAB doesn't want to go any faster than 5 or 6 KB/s. I have 50 connections enabled and other than changing the default download folder, the SAB installation is default.

I've checked Newsbin on my desktop (SAB is on my laptop) and I can achieve my full connection speed, so it appears that my internet connection is ok.

I have successfully downloaded a test file, so SAB is working, just slowly!

Can anyone help?

Reduce from 50 to about 8.
Experiment a bit to get the optimum value.
50 will only mean more overhead without any gain.

I use Giganews with  6 connections and rarely go below 10Mbytes/sec.

Ok, tried varying the number of connections. Doesn't seem to make any difference. I'm still stuck between 4-8KB/s.

Are you sure the NZB is within the retention time of your server?
Are you using a wireless connection?
Do you get better results if you run SABnzbd on your desktop system?
What does newsbin do on the laptop?
