Downloading German MP3s

When I download German MP3s and there is e.g. a "ä", "ë" or a "ü" etc in the name, when unpacked there is a "_" in that place. Then I can't play the song. There is a message that the song doesn't exist. The file isn't empty. It is e.g. 7,5Mb. Is this a problem of SABnzbd+ or is this a problem of my Synology?

It depends a bit on the way the files are packaged.
Do the mp3 come from RAR files or are they directly downloaded?
There may be a mismatch between the NAS's file system is setup
and they way SABnzbd and/or unrar assume it is.

The files come from RAR files. If there is a mismatch between the NAS´s file system setup and the way SABnzbd+ unrar assumes it, do you know a way to solve this?

If the unpacking is actually from the RAR files, then the problem is in unrar.
It works with Unicode and should translate to the proper localization.
I know that on Linux systems it bluntly assumes that Unicode can be handled, even if not.
It can very well be that the NAS doesn't accept the file names that unrar wants to use.
Check the Synology boards.
Maybe there's some extra work needed to set the NAS up properly.
US companies sometimes forget that there are other languages than English.

Thanks for this moment. I will check the Synology boards.

The answer I got from Synology is as follows:
The root cause is from the files downloaded using the SABnzbd package which is not able to transcode the file name correctly in DSM(which uses UTF8). Since SABnzbd is a third party application, we will not be able to provide a solution for this issue. I apologize for the inconvenience.
So that easy!! There is nothing to do about it. On the Synology Forum many people say that there bugs in DSM 3.0. Is this problem not also a bug?

I think the problems is actually in unrar.
Where did you get unrar from?
Is it a supported app for the Synology?
I order to help you further I still need to know if the files
are directly downloaded or are coming from RAR files.

Thank You for responding. I will tell you what I do. I choose a CD with FTDv3. Mostly the files are .......part01.rar etc. I push a NZB button. Then a NZB post is saved in a folder on my computer. I bring the post to SABnzbd. This in the option: Wissel "NZB toevoegen" (Add NZB). It starts to download. The unpacking is done by SABnzbd as far as I know. On my computer is also WINRAR v. 3.93. I don't think that, in this case, it has something to do with the process.
You asked me which UNRAR I use. How can I find that? I don't think it is something from Synology, but I'm not sure about this.

OK, so the files do come from RAR files.
That makes it an unrar problem.
You can check this by telling SABnzbd not to unpack the RAR files,
but instead use WinRAR on your PC to unpack.
For the unrar version, open a terminal session to your NAS and just type:
unrar
It will show you the version number.

You have given me a solution. Unpacking with WINRAR is perfect. I have to do one thing more during downloading, but that's OK. It works very well now.
Then your second remark to find out the unrar version. I'm new at this. What do you mean by opening a terminal session? Is unrar something from SABnzbd or from the Synology. If it is from SABnzbd, will there be a change that a newer version doesn't have this problem? I saw you are a developer / administrator. That's why I ask this.
For this moment: Thanks a lot

First: we don't create SABnzbd packages for Synology.
Someone else does that (based on our source-code-only distribution).
We have no ties with these people.
Only the binary distributions for Windows and OSX contain unrar.

It's not really being tracked by us.
We have no control over how unrar behaves.
Nor do we work on Synology packages.

I have the same problem, but not with German songs. Some problems with Korean songs.
I use a Synology DS1010 (DSM3.0) too with Sabnzbd+ 0.5.6 and have changed language settings Unicode in Korean.
But after unpacking, the filenames are using strange characters that the NAS can not recognize the filenames.
You can't even delete or rename the files.
Here is a NZB you can download and check.

Please help for any solution.

I'll check, but it might take a while.
Too busy with the 0.6.0 Beta aftermath.

I looked at this download.
The problem is in the way the characters are encoded.
The names as viewed with WinRAR are garbish.
Not a problem we can solve.
