Sabnzbd+ cache folder access

Hi all. Hopefully this is an easy one for someone.
I've got 3 HDD in my system. 2 of which are used for storage, i wish these to spin down when not in use. The other is smaller and holds my linux install.
I've set sabnzbd to have its cache, download and complete dirs on one of the data drives. The watch folders, logs etc are on the smaller system drive.
If sabnzbd is running, but with nothing in the queue, the data drive fails to sleep. However, with sabnzbd off it sleeps as i'd expect.
Does the cache folder get read periodically? Should i move it to my system drive? Is it likely to get big during downloading?
Is there something else sabnzbd related that might prevent my data drive from spinning down.
Thanks very much for your help.
And thanks team for an EXCELLENT app!
