par2 seems to hang on ubuntu 10.04 server

I did find this post similar to mine but it looks like the OP is on windows server.

Anyway, I'm on ubuntu 10.04 and never had any issues till I upgraded from 8.04 to 10.04.

Now from time to time, par2 seems to hang on a repair.  And it seems only when it can't be repaired that it hangs.  At least from what I've noticed.

I'm running par2cmdline version 0.4 along with unrar 3.90 beta 2.   sabnzbd 0.5.3

the only thing that I've been able to do with this is to go into /home/sabnzbd/.sabnzbd/sabnzbd/incomplete/ and blow away the directory.   I normal shut down sabnzbd first before hand, then restart.

Just curious if anyone else has seen this and if so can offer some insight.

Thanks

We have no influence on par2 as it is a third party utility coming from Ubuntu's repository.
More people have reported problems with the multi-core variant.
Sometimes it helps to tell the tool to work singe core.

Check the version of par2:
par2 --help
If the signon contains "Intel Thread Building Blocks", you have the multi-core version.
If you you can try to add  the par2 option -t- in Config->Switches.

I'm not running the multi-threaded version.

I know you all don't control it, but it seems that if the files need to be repaired but not enough blocks to do the repair that sabnzbd doesn't exit right on the process to move on.

I'm not really sure how to describe it.

Occasional, non-reproducible hangups are most likely to be caused by par2
and/or your system (memory).
So far we have never seen evidence for problems in SABnzbd in this area.
