Hello.
I'm using Xsnews.nl and Xs4all.nl free IPv6 news servers with good results.
Since I don't have native IPv6 from my ISP I have to use a tunelbroker such as SixXS or Freenet6.
So I ran a comparison and found out that on my 15MB connection, I can download a binary at 850KB/s using SixXS and at 400KB/s using Freenet6.
The difference is huge, more than 50%.
Can anyone else post their findings with these and other tunelbrokers?

I only use Freenet6 client and the speed depends on hour of the day namely how busy is xsnews server .

In the morning i get 70-80 mbits with ease and does peak to 90-100 mbits ( my max line speed) , in the evening usually around 20 mbit something like 15-25mbit.

This is ussing the Amsterdam gateway since i live in Europe and xsnews is in Europe, all that i can say is the free Ipv6 servers are in the morning a lot faster than some "premium" ones

Wait-a-minute.
Are you telling me that you get up to 70Mbit/s from xsnews through Freenet6?
70Mbit/s as in ~8.75MBytes/s?
The most I could pull from xsnews through Freenet6 so far was 4,8Mbit/s, or ~600KBytes/s.
When I change to SixXS i tend to get better, around 8000Mbit/s which is roughly 1MByte/s.
Now, 70Mbit/s?

I guess I'm gonna try xsnews at a friend's place with Fiber connection and see what I can get.

What Amsterdam gateway?
I point to reader.ipv6.xsnews.nl:119.

Yest i do mean 70Mbit/s as in ~8.75MBytes/s , but one thing though i use Newsbin to download files , it has the better/faster download engine.
I'm away atm when i get back home ( 2-3 days) i'll post a screen just for you .

I use the gogonet client http://gogonet.gogo6.com/ and their authenticated servers . When u use that client u can choose what gateway you wanna use : montreal.freenet6.net , amsterdam.freenet6.net , sydney.freenet6.net , taipei.freenet6.net .

LOL @ 83 Mbps download! Are you on FttH, or cable DOCSIS (max 120 Mbps?), or at work ...?

T100 FttH , but i only use the free ipv6 servers for testing purposes .

I get Full T100 a.k.a 100 Mbps constant at any time with any premium provider which gives you at least 20-30 connections .

Please take in mind that this is done using a hardware Firewall then an Ipv6 Client yet the speed is still ::)

Absolutely amazing, the results you achieve!

On the other hand it is very strange that I get so much different results from you.
It is true that you're using Newsbin Pro while I am only using SAB+.
It is true that you're on FTTH (100MB/s plan) while I'm on ADSL2+ (12MB/s plan).
But the rest is not that much different except that I'm in Portugal and you're...well I don't know where you are but you don't seem to be in Portugal.
I'm now connecting to Freenet6 through their authenticated server in Amsterdam.
My top speed with them has been 600KByte/s while with SixXS/AICCU I can get to 1000KByte/s.
Theoretically, my connection should be able to pull a max of 1500KByte/s.
This means that, using Freenet, I'm pulling 40% of my line capacity whereas you can pull between 70% to 85% of your line capacity.
So, our findings are very different.
Anyone else care to share their figures?

Both with SABnzbd and with downloads like http://[2001:6a8:a40::21]/packages/ubuntu/releases/10.04/ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386.iso , I get about 420 kB/s = 4.2 Mbps IPv6 on my 12 Mbps ADSL line.

I think it's caused by the fact that my Sixxs tunnel is handled by a WRT54G; not the fastest processor on earth ...

Like i already said depends on how busy is the xsnews server , at this hour ( evening) it's around 20-25 Mbps , but sometimes (morning hours in Europe) i do get almost full T100 .

Also do you know that the max number of connections for reader.ipv6.xsnews.nl is 25 ? or for newszilla6.xs4all.nl is 4 ? I ask because sometimes not the max number of connections can't give you the best results.
For instance for a premium provider you wouldn't need more than 4-5 connections to fill the bandwidth at any time, any more connections will in fact slow down the download rather than increasing.

Why not try to do a download with NewsBin ( works even in linux with wine ) instead of Sab and see if the speed are different, last time i checked sab was a lot slower even with premium providers.

Well, I do know that max connections for newszilla6 is 4, but xsnews doesn't allow me more than 10 simultaneous connections.
How can you get to 25 connections to xsnews?

I tried, but I'm afraid I'm too dumb to use newsbin.
I couldn't make it work on my system.

I woke up early, and decided to test Freenet6+Xsnews at 8am GMT.
It's amazing.
With 10 simultaneous connections to Amsterdam - I can't get more than 10 working - I get 1.35MBytes/s on a 12Mbit/s link.
It's filling up all my Adsl connection.
I wish I could get more than 10 connections, like you can.
Also I've noticed that Xsnews has drop a lot of groups, among them hdtv.x264 which is a shame...
Nevertheless it rocks because it's free

Glad to hear that you get the results you expected, as for the connections number the only difference could be my xsnews account is probably one of the oldest ( more than year and half could be almost 2 ) , hence i just get more connections , but I'm not sure.
