I was expecting to see rar/par files in the folder but there is nothing?! Where would these files have gone (there was def files being d/l but I can't see any files with a full search. Why would they have been deleted (or would they be hidden?) - first time occurrence - usually when a file fails there is the partial/incomplete files.
Any help appreciated.

Check your connection in Status and Interface settings window.
Use Test Server in Config > Servers.
We will probably ask you to do a test using only basic settings. - Do you experience problems during repair or unpacking?
Enable +Debug logging in the Status and Interface settings window and share the relevant parts of the log here using [ code ] sections.

Either nothing was downloaded (but the server is very slow in telling you that an article is missing)
or there was some folder naming problem.
Check the "temporary download folder".
Have a look at the logging file (see Connections) page.

No no errors and nothing in incomplete folder. Weird cause it was defo downloading as I was watching it's progress.. Guess I'm screwed !

How old is the post (SABnzbd will tell you) and what's
the average retention time of your Usenet provider?

I just had the same problem.
Sabnzbd showed a complete progression bar but the download never finish, so I looked in the temp folder and there is nothing !!!
This was something posted 20 hours ago while my usenet provider has a 200+ days retention.
I had several losts of adsl yesterday night and I also had to reboot my iMac once, I wonder if this is related...
I cancelled the download, took back the nzb file in the backup and put it back in the queue, it looks ok...
This time there is a folder for my download in the temp folder. Let's see if the download completes...
