I am running SABnzbd via docker on a Synology 900. The System runs stabe for some time now with no Prolems. But now something seems broken. The System runs on DSM 7.2.2-72806 Update 3 with SABnzbd version 4.5.1. It started a few weeks ago. If a download is started, the download or downloads procede normal but the whole System freezes for the duration of the download. The server can not be connected over http or even samba. After the download ends everything returns to normal. The effect occures only wile downloadng with sabnzb. Downloads via any other method or Software behave normal. I am clueless

OK, with AMD Ryzen Embedded R1600, which is like a Intel Celeron from 2020 or so. So: OK-ish.

First of all: it's the task of the operating system to keep the OS stable and reachable. You the real problem is in the OS.

Workarounds:
- as you run Docker: from the OS / Docker manager: limit the CPU power given to SABnzbd. For example: 0.5 CPU
- within SABnzbd you can do this: set number of newsservers connections to 2, and try again. Stable dowload: you can raise number with 2. Do a new download ... until not stable/reachable ... then go back to lower number or connections.
- within SABnzbd: and/or: https://sabnzbd.org/wiki/configuration/4.5/switches read about nice and ionice parameters

In theory I agree with you, but the whole System worked fine, including SABnzbd, It did not mater how many downloads I threw simultanuasly at it no Problem at all. and it is only now that things behave strange even the atempted download of one file will cause the anove described behavior, There seems to be some strange problem between SABnzbd and DSM at work. I will test it behaves with nzbget and an older Version of SABnzbd. I do not know who is at fault here, but the sudden behavior change is strange.

The same Problem exists with the SynoCommunity version but worse this version manages to only download on file while the docker version downloads the whole list even if it is unresponsive while doing that

You're talking about the Synology?

Internet is still reachable from your Pc/Mac?

Yes the Synology is unresponsive while downloading via SABnzbd. The System itself seems to be runnig fine, as the downloads are getting finished, but you can not access the system via any protocol (http, https, samba etc) while it is downloading afte the downloads are finished everything returns to normal

I think that does not answer my question about Internet?

OK, good. Then your NAS is the problem, and not your router / network.

Two possibilities, DSM update broke my config or SABnzbd Update broke my config :-(
After a deeper check on the nas, the nas works just normal while downloading but no connection to it is possible no ping nothing the only connection it has is the download connection SABnzbd uses for the download. While downloading Processor Load is around 20 % max and spikes to 40 % while postprocessing

You can check that your SABnzbd Docker container has proper volume mounts pointing to fast, local storage to avoid disk I/O bottlenecks. You can also set resource limits (CPU and RAM) in Docker to prevent SABnzbd from freezing the entire Synology system during downloads.

A google search led me here, because I have the same problem, but my setup is different:
DS920+ on DSM 6.2.4-25556 Update 8
RAM: 20 GB
Sabnzbd installed from the package centre.

Since a couple of new versions I experience the same behaviour. Never had this problem before, been using Sabnzbd since 4 years or so...
I have checked the performance counters and logs on the Syno, but nothing out of the ordinary is showing.
@sander: maybe a bug?

Currently bought a new DS923+, installing Sabnzbd on docker, hoping things will improve.

> DS920+ on DSM 6.2.4-25556 Update 8

DSM 6.2 has reached the end of the Extended Life Phase on October 1, 2024
The most recent DiskStation Manager (DSM) version for the Synology DS920+ is DSM 7.2.2-72806.

So ... upgrade?

Also: you did not answer any of the questions in the thread above.

I’m running into the exact same issue. I’ve tried every fix I could find, but nothing seems to work. At this point, I can’t help but wonder if Synology has deliberately left this problem unresolved to discourage piracy. I even tried installing NZBGet, but the same problem occurs.

I’ve been using my Synology NAS for four years without any major trouble, but ever since the latest update, these issues started showing up. Honestly, I’m at the point where I’m ready to toss my Synology in the trash and move over to a Ugreen NAS. My patience with Synology has completely run out.
