Making sure Sabnzbd only uses ipv4 and uses the VPN connection

Post by filmpje »

Hello everybody!

I'm new to this forum but a long time user of Sabnzbd. I am facing an issue and I hope you can help me with this.

Problem: I cannot confirm sabnzbd is using my VPN connection.

Situation:
- I have Sabnzbd installed on a synology nas.
- I have setup a VPN connection on synology with openvpn. My VPN provider is Privado.
- Synology can only use the VPN for IPv4 connections (not for IPv6 connections)
- I have NOT switched off ipv6 (I need ipv6 for some other software on the Synology). I know that Synology wil only use VPN for ipv4 connection, so I have the risk of ipv6 leakage

Question: How can I ensure and confirm that Sabnzbd is ONLY using ipv4 and is actually using my VPN connection?

What I have tried:
- In the config.ini file I have changed: ipv6_server=0, ipv6_hosting=0, ipv6=0 to switch off ipv6 connections. But I still see a ipv6 address in sabnzbd status overview so I'm affraid it still uses ipv6 (without vpn).
- Sabnzbd ipv4 public address is an IP from my VPN provider.
- I have used wireshark to monitor network traffic, but I cannot see any traffic over my vpn connection
- I cannot confirm with wireshark wether sabnzbd uses only ipv4 and uses VPN (not skilled enough to interpret the detailed data of the capture)

Hope you can help with this.

I don't understand:

"Making sure Sabnzbd only uses ipv6"
"ipv6_server=0, ipv6_hosting=0, ipv6=0 to switch off ipv6 connections. But I still see a ipv6 address in sabnzbd status overview so I'm affraid it still uses ipv6 (without vpn)."

So what do you want SABnzbd to do? IPv6, or no IPV6?

Sorry, my bad: I want Sabnzbd only making use if ipv4. So question should have been: 'How can I ensure and confirm that Sabnzbd is ONLY using ipv4 and is actually using my VPN connection?'. Sorry for confusion. I have changed my post.

Can you change the title so it's clear from the title what you want, and don't want?

Sorry, sorry, sorry.... I made the same typo twice. Corrected it.

So in summary: I want SABNZBD to only use IPv4 (and not IPv6) because my VPN only works for IPv4 connections. How can I make sure this is the case and how can I verify this?

"- Sabnzbd ipv4 public address is an IP from my VPN provider.
- I have used wireshark to monitor network traffic, but I cannot see any traffic over my vpn connection"

That is a contradiction. So make sure which statement is true.

EDIT:

Oh, it can be true, but then you've shown yourself your wireshark measurement method is incorrect.

Yes both are true and I have no experience with Wireshark.

I can see a graph building up behind 'ethernet' and 'Adapter for loopback traffic capture'. But not behind 'PrivadoVPN (OpenVPN)' or 'PrivadoVPN (OpenVPN DCO)'. Wanted to post a screenshot to illustrate, but don't see how that works in this forum.
