I think I break it every time I update. I should learn a lesson from this, but I guess not yet.

Windows 10 machine
I downloaded the update and pointed it to the same folder as the current install. Now when I try to start it up, I get the following error:

Failed to execute script 'pyi_rth_win32_compgenpy' due to unhandled exception
importError: Module use of python38.dll conflicts with this version of Python.



Any help would be greatly appreciated!

First uninstall it fully, make sure the installation folder is completely gone. Then install it again.
Seems there were leftover files from a very old installation.

thanks for the help! uninstalled and reinstalled and now I'm back up and running
