optic fiber but low download...

Post by museane »

Hello,
First, sorry for my english, I'm french..
I now have the optic fiber in my home, when I do a test of my speed, I've got 73 megabit/second for the download.
But when I download a file with SABnzb, the speed is only 1,2 MB/s.
I have changed the speed of the download in the configuration (1 000 MB/s) but nothing changed.
My server is newsconnection.
Thanks to help me.

MegaBit is not MegaByte.
Speedtest.net will show MegaBit.

When you download via your browser or other software, how fast does it go?
Have you tried a different provider? Take for example a trial account with another provider, I happen to use Frugal Usenet.

Thanks for your answer :-)
With Speedtest, my speed of download is 70,21Mbps.
I just tried a different provider (Newshosting), now my speed on SABnzb is about 10MB/s.
So it was my provider Newsconnection who was too slow.
But why can't I download with a speed about 60/70 MB/s ?

OK. So: mega-bit
I just tried a different provider (Newshosting), now my speed on SABnzb is about 10MB/s.
OK. So: mega-BYTE
Nice score: 10MB/s is about 85Mbps

But why can't I download with a speed about 60/70 MB/s ?
... because you need a 600 Mbps connection for that.

I believe the French have sovled that by calling 8 bits an ... "octet", haven't they?

EDIT:

Orange.fr says "Enregistreur 160 Go" so Giga-octet. Clear & good.
And also "200 Mbit/s minimum en débit descendant" ... good: bits.
