Inconsistant Speeds ???

Hi guys,

need some help and feedback. I check the online forms and made the necessary changes and it just not making sense to me.

So i recently got gigabit speed at home and super excited. I use newsdeamon as my usenet 50 connections. My PC is not a slouch, as its a I5 (3rd gen) 3.5 ghz with 16 gb ram and using SSD drive for temp DL folder. When i had cable internet I only got 100mb down and it was about 10 mb consistently. Now with the fiber internet i still get low speeds. I get from 10 to 15 but mainly around 10. So I also have plex on this server and when i do a refresh on the library the dam speed jumps to 20 to 35. The max I have gotten is 40 but again it jumps around.
I also use this PC as a NVR and it gets data from IPCAM and it uses about 20 Mbps for data. I have that data going to my D drive that is another harddrive (WD green). Also another note I think I should mention is the sabnzvbd app is loaded on this C SSD drive.

When I tried my gaming PC that is a i7 4ghz with 8 gb and ssd. I get speeds of 60 and max was 70.

So I am so puzzled of what is going on with this stupid I5 PC. Why is it getting low speeds and not using max speed. I have tried many different nzb files and it still around the 10 to 15 mark. What do I need to change to get this moving?

Below is the performance results based on sabnzbd.
Nameserver / DNS LookupOK
Used cache0 B (0 articles)
System performance (Pystone)34392
Download folder speed65.1 MB/s (C:\test)
Complete folder speed4.7 MB/s (X:\Downloads\incomplete)

Humm I ran it again while plex was running and i get this.
Nameserver / DNS LookupOK
Used cache0 B (0 articles)
System performance (Pystone)52827
Download folder speed295.9 MB/s (C:\test)
Complete folder speed4.9 MB/s (X:\Downloads\incomplete)

Below is what i get from my gaming PC.
Nameserver / DNS LookupOK
Used cache0 B (0 articles)
System performance (Pystone)113364
Download folder speed352.3 MB/s (C:\Users\Gemnistone\inco…)
Complete folder speed352.3 MB/s

Any info or advice would be great.
Thanks in advance.

What do you have set for Article cache?
Do you run SABnzbd as a service or 'regular'?
10MB/s is limited, it should be at least 30MB/s.
Unfortunately even if we fix the discrepancy, SAB won't be able to fully utilize your gigabit connection because Python (which SAB is made in) cannot use multiple cores and usenet downloading is very CPU intensive. On my i5 I am able to get around 40MB/s stable (when not using SSL) on gigabit.
If you want to max out your connection, you are probably better off with "the competition": NZBGet.

System performance (Pystone)52827
That's very slow for an i5. My i3 from 2011 achieves around 100.000, my Celeron 47.000.
So are you running heavy processes on your i5 at the same time?
Download folder speed295.9 MB/s (C:\test)
That's good
Complete folder speed4.9 MB/s (X:\Downloads\incomplete)
That's extremely slow. But you should only experience that during the final fase of a download.

Furthermore:
From your i5 PC, which speed do you get on https://fast.com/ ?
Which speed does your Newsdemon offer? Unlimited, or 100 Mbps?

regular app. It shows on the bottom right as a icon.

I dont want to switch as I have been using sab for years and it has been issue less for that amount of time lol thx for the feedback.

Nope, no heavy item. The NVR is only using like 5 % of the CPU.

That is on the SSD drive.
Complete folder speed4.9 MB/s (X:\Downloads\incomplete)

This is on the NAS server but it was under heavy load hehe.

Fast.com give me from 300 to 800. it varies

Newsdemon is unlimited and not set at 100.

Ok so i figured out the issue. I feel like a idiot but now it is solved.

I redid my wiring and ran a new copper cat 5 e from modem to switch and that was a pain but same result. I connected device directly to modem same result. I was like what the f lol. So then i looked at my PC and updated drivers and nothing. Come to find out when I first loaded this PC the stupid motherboard installed this xfast lan software. It tweaks some setting and I just completely uninstalled it. Once that happen, it gave consistent 780 plus. woo hooo
Now when i start a DL, it only give me around 40 but way better than 10.

So looks i at the limit of the app. I spent a good 3 hrs for a 2 min solution. LOL

It is weird though my I7 gets 60 plus but my i5 only gets 40 or so. I dont see alot of PC being used.

Anything else I can tweek?

I looked into what you said about nzbget. I installed it and the stupid app wont load on my browser. its 127.0.0.1:6789 and nothing comes up. So not sure what the issue is there.

You don't see a lot of cpu used because of the 4 cores that your i5 has, sabnzbd can only use 1, so 25%.

It's still some time away, but sabnzbd 1.3.0 will bring improvements that bump speed by 30%. But that's still not enough to max out your connection, unfortunately :/
