Can't get over 45-50MB/s download no matter what

Post by NOTORIOUS VR »

I've been trying to get faster speeds with my gigabit connection, I had originally only one main provider I thought maybe it wasn't able to give me more from just that one source so after learning that people were adding a second primary server and able to max 1-2GB connections that way I signed up to another provider on a separate backbone, yet still I'm limited to ~45MB/s.

Actually with lots of connections open on each server speeds suffered even more. I then limited each to 15 and got 40-45 again, then I just tried the new server with 20 and again just 45 MB/s.

Doing some light reading on here I saw there was a built in speed test for the CPU and HDD. Now I know I have more than enough hardware grunt to make it possible, but I have a bottleneck somewhere and I need a little help finding it out.

My setup is running in a VM (ESXi) on a dual CPU Xeon, I've allocated 8 CPU's to the VM and 8 GB of RAM. It's using the same NIC as all my other VM's which don't have any speed issues (VMXNET 3 - to give an idea, I can sustain transfer speeds on my network between VM's and from my PC to my ZFS server around 105-110 MB/s). The TMP folder is located directly on a 120 GB SSD as well.

Here are the stats from SAB:

From what I can see I should have enough horsepower and throughput physically?

My ver. info:

Speed test as of writing this:

Any ideas?

Thanks!

You should use nzbget for your setup. Sabnzbd cannot handle these speeds because it's programmed in python, which has some overhead (but is much easier to program) and can only do single core.
Maybe see if you update to 1.1.x you will get a few MB/s more, but not max out your connection :(

I appreciate the push... while I have known about NZBget for a while I was happy for many years with sab so I stuck with it.

I did however try the update to 1.1.x, that didn't do much for me...

Today I installed NZBget and Sonarr and everything is moving along at a very rapid rate now (75-85MB/s) and Sonarr is a welcome refresher to the ever aging and abandoned Sickbeard.

Cheers!
