I've found that verifying and repairing can cause issues with video playback, especially if the same machine is the player and downloader. I've also see issues when the plex server is streaming high bit rate content and completing downloads at the same time.

As a solution, is it possible to have a low priority mode, that can be either triggered temporarily or permanently? This would same having to pause downloads when watching. I guess by setting the CPU priority to background for any par processes.

Going 1 step further, if this could be exposed via the API, then plugins for software like Plex could activate low priority mode whilst content is playing.

You can already adjust the download speed through the API (and the UI and the Scheduler).
That will reduce CPU time.
However, the biggest issues are par2 repairs and unrar.
Those two are able to bring the disk to its knees, which is something we cannot really control.
One option is to pause post-processing (also through the Scheduler or the API) during playing of content.
