need to delet files in root but no permission

After a clean install of sab and sick, I forgot the 777 and specify a folder for downloads, and I accidentally downloaded a few files before realising. Now I have about 6 movies in the root that I cant delete or watch and kinda get in the way when accessing my media, from DLNA tv etc..
So you before I go and do a reinstall is there a way i can gain access to just remove the files, iv scoured the net and still nothing.
