Error renaming log

Post by kevindd992002 »

What does this error log mean?

2014-11-08 11:04:05,463 ERROR: Error renaming "D:\Users\KevinMychal\Downloads\SAB\for_processing\TV\_UNPACK_Constantine.S01E03.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSION-NZBgeek" to "D:\Users\KevinMychal\Downloads\SAB\for_processing\TV\Constantine.S01E03.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSION-NZBgeek"

It means what it says. SABnzbd cannot rename a folder.
A notorious problem on Windows due to the fact that Windows doesn't
allow renaming if some other program even looks at a folder.
The best thing to do is to set the option "Enable folder rename" in Config->Switches off.

Well, can I know which program is trying to access that folder when sab tried renaming it? I don't think anything is accessing it during that time but could it be my antivirus program? But this is just an isolated case and not happening constantly.

And what is the disadvantage of disabling "folder rename"? Or is there even an advantage in the first place?

The virus scanner is the most likely candideren, how else can it do its work.
The renaming option is only used to signal the fact that the folder
contains incomplete data.
Both for the user and scanning media players (e.g. Plex).

Well, why does it not happen all the time then? The antivirus scans all folders being accessed every single tim.

How would other media players rely on the renaming function?

Timing and coincidence.
Some media players scan folders to build their library.
You can tell them to skip folders starting with __unpack__
