Total beginner - Connections = None

I read all the reviews that said how good SABnzbd was - so I must be doing something really stupid here - I have scoured the Help and FAQs. But I am obviously missing something very basic.

I have downloaded SABnzbd and I have configured my news provider news.virginmedia.com - Port 0 (tried 119 as well) everything else defaults. I try the test button and it reports a successful connection.

I uploaded a couple of test nzb files - they appear in the Queue and the sizes appear to be correct - then NOTHING.......

If I look at the Status Tab, under Connections it says NONE.

I have obviously missed something but what???

I have scoured the web, I have reinstalled it, I have tried it on IE, Chrome and Firefox. I don't have a firewall, just MSE.
XNEWS and binreader both work fine with the same connection details ??? ???

Port 119 is the normal port, unless you've ticked "SSL".
Isn't SABnzbd paused? The little block at the top right should be yellow (not red).

Port 0 was the one I used with other programs - both 0 and 119 work with a Test Connect.

The Pause button was yellow - I clicked it and set a 5 minutes pause - this expired and still nothing.

In the incompete folder under an _ADMIN_ folder there are a set of 1Kb files (does this indicate that the nvb file has been parsed?

But no indication of any download content.

The many files indicate that the NZB was parsed successfully.
Port 0 is not usable.
I have no real explanation though.
Is the download speed zero or just a very low value?
Are jobs individually paused (they should have a triangle at the left side)?

I knew it was something basic. I tested Port 119 it was OK, but I reverted to Port 0 (as that was what Xnews and BinReader used). But your advice that Port 0 is not usable did the trick - Set port to 119 and now there is activity :-)

Virgin are effectively stopping News access 10:00 to 24:00 daily, so I am hoping to use the schedule facilities here to download outside these hours.

Thanks for the pointer !!!
