The message is "gaierror: [Errno 8] nodename nor servname provided, or not known". And: on OSX, right?

My guesses:
- you filled a non-resolving name in SAB's Config at "SABnzbd Host", or
- your DNS / resolving is not working correctly

Ah, that looks normal.

Long shot:
With SAB *not* running, edit the sabnzbd.ini and change the first line from "host = 0.0.0.0" to "host = 127.0.0.1". Save & exit. Can you then start SABnzbd ... ?

after changing host to 127.0.0.1....my output is this:
SABnzb is running! Now to access SABnzb i have to go to 127.0.0.1:8080
If i leave it this way i have to change the settings in my sickbeard and couch and outside access. Is this a known bug that would be fixed or do i leave it 127.0.0.1

Not a SABnzbd bug per se; There is something wrong (or: not-as-expected) with your OSX name resolving. Or you have a firewall installed & active.

See http://wiki.sabnzbd.org/configure-general-0-7 at "Host" for possible values you could try: empty, 0.0.0.0, 127.0.01, ::, etc etc

You can choose what works for you.

It seemed files were downloading when i left this morning but they would download and this evening i noticed all had this error:

what does this mean and how do i fix this? I dont understand how a perfect setup that has been working for years all of a sudden everything gets messed up...man when it rains it pours

I think what may have caused it is me adding entries to /etc/hosts and then running: $ dscacheutil -flushcache
I removed the entries out of /etc/hosts that i added however I still cannot change back the host to 0.0.0.0 and if i leave it 127.0.0.1 I am still getting the Errno socket error

As I said "There is something wrong (or: not-as-expected) with your OSX name resolving.". Your two new posts confirm that.

Not a SABnzbd thing. And as I haven't got OSX myself, I can't help. Better to get help in an OSX forum.

Just wanted to post my fix:

After some reading I came across a page saying to edit the following: pico /private/etc/hosts

In this file there was nothing. So I added the following:

127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
::1 localhost

After I am able to ping localhost and all is well in the world! Thanks for brainstorming with me and helping to guide me to the answer. Hopefully if this happens to anybody else this post will help. Its not just the /etc/hosts apparently you need this in the /private/etc/hosts

i searched the user/library/application support folder for setting up the .ini file but there was no sabnzbd folder....

Then check the output of this.

wow thanks for answering so fast, i found out that the library folder was not visible, so i changed that now i can access the .ini file, the problem in the .ini file was that the ip adresse was wrong, i don't know why this was wrong, but everything works now
