Hi

I've had a longstanding problem with Sabnzbd downloading files, which I can't solve for the life of me.....

If I download a media file to my NAS using sab, and try to play it through my TV, my TV doesn't see the downloaded file. When i log into the NAS GUI and simply move the file to a different directory (and even move it back again...), it comes up and works fine.

I get Sab to download using catagories/sorting - nothing weird at all in the sab config that i can tell. The download directory seems to be absolutely fine - other media files in there stream OK, and permissions at the file level are all the same. Doing a chown or chmod to the files doesn't change an iota. Moving the file in the shell with mv <file> <dest> doesn't do anything either. I need to MOVE the file via the Synology interface to get my TV to recognise it. I'm thinking this must be a permissions level thing, and when the Synology GUI moves the file, something changes with the file to make my TV see it. But looking at the file itself in the shell, nothing seems to have changed... ?

I'm using Sab 0.7.11, a Samsung smart TV and a Synology NAS running DSM 4.2. Absolutely lost for what to troubleshoot next, so any ideas are welcomed!!!

First things first: analysis!

So: log in on your Synology using ssh or telnet, cd to the directory, and do a "ls -al". Do that for the working and non-working directories, and ... compare.

So i've done some troubleshooting and here's the results. I'm running SABnzbd 0.7.16 and Synology DSM 4.2-3211...

Lets test out episode 5 of 2 Broke Girls.

Currently I can't see Episode 5 through my Smart TV interface (Plex or direct... doesn't matter).

I've reset the TV just to clear any caching issues, and the result: Episode 5 still dont work. Episodes 1, 2 and 3 work fine.

So I move the video file with "mv" to the upper directory

As expected, still no joy.

So I log into Synology web interface and move Episode 5 to upper directory via the File Station app (which is nothing special... just a Synology Explorer app).

Very bizzare!

Bizarre indeed. No idea. Do you use Samba, or some other protocol to share your files.

And: if SAB puts the file there, and you reboot your Synology, does it then appear on your TV ... If so, it's caching thing in your Synology.
