With 0.4.4 and using 12 connections to my newsgroup provider, I routinely maxed out my download speed (about 1500kB/s). After switching to 0.4.5 I noticed a throughput of about 700kB/s. That was happening for several weeks and there were no other problems with my Internet connection. I bumped the number of connections up to 20 and now I get about 1200kB/s. That is the maximum number of connections I can have with the host. Has something changes with 0.4.5 that would cause the threads to be slower?

We're not aware of a speed reduction.
It would probably only surface when using a slower PC and a high-speed ISP connection.
The team members either have (relatively) slow ISP speeds or fast systems.

Nevertheless, I will try to do some performance testing.
It will not change things for the next release 0.4.6, since that's nearly finished.

BTW, which operating system are you using, what is your ISP speed
and who is your news provider? Also, what's the speed of your system?

Are you using or did you start using SSL connections to the news server?

Just installed 0.4.6 and initial testing shows I am back to full speed! Interesting....

I'm perplexed.
The only explanation I can come up with is changed libraries.
But I don't recall changing them since 0.4.3.
I'll will trace back what has changed anyway.

When you switch back to 0.4.5, do you get the lower speeds again?
You're sure it's not some temporary ISP, newsprovider problem?
