Brand new to Usenet! - Questions

Hello all,

I really have been enjoying usenet and sabnzbd+. I do not have a firm grip on how the system really works and am unfamiliar on how to troubleshoot issues, so I am coming to all of you. ;)

I am using couchpotato, sickbeard, and headphones to automate my downloads, but I am still managing them heavily, because I keep running into problems. If something is wrong with these particular applications and you cannot help me, please refer me to the proper community!

1. Some of my downloads have just disappeared after completing. One was a TV show nzb that contained an entire season's worth of episodes and failed repair a couple times. I attempted to supplement the repair with an nzb off a public indexer (same release, don't know if same nzb) and then it just went POOF! Looked in the log and couldn't decipher what had happened. Since then, I think sab really took a shit and deleted 90% of all my queue! I have no clude how it happened, but it's probably due to the fact that I am building a large library and my queue was very long... over 2TB worth of nzbs... Since then, I rebuilt most of it, but when I woke up this morning and checked on the progress of my downloads, there were 3 movies that were stuck at 100%. I attempted to restart sab and then they just went POOF kinda like the tv season... My log is so massive that it's very difficult to find what happened, if it's even there.

2. Some of my music downloads are coming up with directories that only have an exe file with the name of the release and an install.bin. What is this? Headphones can't parse these, and it's highly frustrating. I searched a couple indexers and the release is supposed to have many archives, but these are somehow completed downloads, but seems as though it could be in error.

Any feedback is welcomed and appreciated. I am brand new to this and tips are awesome. Thank you.

Can't help you with point one but the music groups have been flooded with shit lately. That's what the exe and bin files are. Don't open them, delete them. They're viruses.
A lot of the indexing sites use the Newznab software to automate the indexing and they're struggling to filter this rubbish out.

Are the EXE files inside RAR files or are these separate files?
In either case I might be able to add detection.
Personally I would be happy with an "Abort when executable content detected" option,
because I never ever use any software coming from Usenet.

I think these files are all contained within the downloaded RAR files.

"Abort when executable content detected"
I think this would be awesome if it could be switched on by category, or a global option with a category override.

Per category will make the UI too complex.
Or we'd need to use a method like what's used for Sorting.

Thinking a bit more about it. It's far from trivial.
Does a single EXE file among other files qualify as "bad"?
My experience is that most posts with EXE files are relatively small, making early detection less useful.

<sigh> and my hopes were dashed so soon :D

It's certainly not a major problem for me, it would be a nice to have. I would think that resources would be better utilised detecting the encrypted archives.
Now they ARE a problem (that I know you're working on)

That's AFTER they've been unpacked from the RAR
