Service not starting [Windows]
Running ver 0.7.11 (win install) as a service on local system.
Win 7 Pro 64bit
Up until today sab has been running flawlessly as a service. Now i cant get the service to start. I've tried starting the service via command line which completes successfully however when i go over to the local services via task manager it says its stopped. When i try to start it from here it says "the operation cannnot be completed, access denied". When i navigate over to Component Services and try to start it from there it tries to start but then fails.
I tried to run the console which loads with the command prompt screen but then quickly disappears. SABnzbd-helper is running as a service also but im not sure what this actually does.
How do i get the sab service running again?

Re: Service not starting
For testing you should use SABnzbd-console.exe and run it from a command prompt.
Re: Service not starting
So got the console to run via command prompt which enabled me to log into sab's UI. Is there something i need to switch on in the interface to allow the service to run?
Re: Service not starting
Judging by the error message you got, it looks like there's some access rights problem.
Under which account does the SABnzbd service run?
The SABHelper is needed to restart SABnzbd and it also functions as a watchdog.
SABHelper needs to run under the local system account.

Re: Service not starting
I'm going to remove and reinstall the service again and see how that goes.
My first thought was access permissions but I have not altered any settings. Everything has been running fine until today. The sab and helper service runs on the local system.

Re: Service not starting
That does mean that you have no access to external drives, htou wrote:The sab and helper service runs on the local system.
but I don't suppose you were using those.
Re: Service not starting
No external drives.
So I try to do fresh install , deleting everything from Program Files and the user\local\appdata folder. When I install and run sabnzbd I get an error msg saying “error occurred – see the logfile C:Program Files (x86)\SANnzbd\SABnzbd.exe.log" for details. Im sure i have deleted everything, even by running the uninstall.
I can’t find this log file anywhere. My original issue has mutated into something worse. Anyone got ideas. PS. I removed sab and helper as a service prior to uninstalling.

Re: Service not starting
The log file should be where the -f parameter said it should be.
Maybe you should add -l2 to the service parameters.
(That's minus el two)
What are your current service parameters?

Re: Service not starting [Windows]
Post reinstalling sab I didn't try to "install" the service.
I thought I would first test whether I could get to the UI as you would normally do and that's when I get the above error. I'll ignore the error and start the services and set the parameters as advised. Previously I had used the -f parameter for the service install.
I have a OS image from 2 weeks ago that i can load up if it gets too much.

Re: Service not starting [Windows]
The log file is your local profile. AppData\local\SABnzbd\logs
Alternatively you can start SABnzbd-console.exe instead from a command prompt.

Re: Service not starting [Windows]
Reimaging didnt work
My log after running the console. I have a feeling i have screwed everything up beyond repair trying to troubleshoot my issue.

Can you run
sabnzbd-console.exe -s 0.0.0.0:8080
EDIT:
... which is the same as:
sabnzbd-console.exe --server 0.0.0.0:8080

My guess is that you have filled out a public IP address, which is not your machine.

Re: Service not starting [Windows]
i originally had sab pointing to a particualr ip address, not one of the defaults. Had issues with the modem yesterday which changed the original ip address sab was pointing too. tried the update and it was downhill from there.
Ive tried the suggested and can now access the UI, thank you sander. I still cannot run sab as a service though. Tried to start the service in safe mode and i get the msg Windows could not start the SABnzbd Binary Newsreader service on Local Computer. Error 1068: the Dependency service or group failed to start. Sab helper was running.

Regarding Sander's advice.
Which host address did you use to setup SABnzbd?
Normally you should be using 0.0.0.0
It is possible to use your local network IP (e.g. 192.168.1.4), but it should always be the same.
BTW: I don't think SABnzbd can work in safe mode.
Re: Service not starting [Windows]
Well I don't know why that version is showing when I specifically downloaded and installed the latest yesterday. It don't know how I would even have access to that version.
I'm going to go fresh install again.
I did use a local ip so that I can acess sab on the WLAN. Is there any advice on running the service? Thanks for the heads up on safe mode, I was trying anything.
