Hi folks, I'm new to this forum but have been using SAB for quite some time now. I figured this would be a good place to ask about ISP options....

I'm currently with Xilo/Uno and in general I can't fault them, however I'm currently having issues with errors on the line which they have had to refer to the supplier which I guess means BT Openreach. The plan was for a new profile on my line but its been 3 days since they requested this and my speeds are still so slow that can't use internet at home for even simple browsing.

This has made me start looking at fibre packages. My line/exchange/cabinet isn't able to provide FTTC so I would have to go full fat FTTP which is fine. The obvious choice is BT Infinity. I'm liking the look of Infinity 2 - upto 76 down & 19 up and supposedly no limits for £26 + line rental. Does anyone know if they truly do allow unlimited and whether or not they throttle connections or block certain ports. I know they hit the news for blocking some index sites but as far as I'm aware they were torrents (not interested) and usenet indexes that have now closed down anyway.

Are there any reasons that I should not go back to BT? Does anyone here use them? What are my alternatives at a similar price?

I get 7.2 MB/s (bytes not bits note) pretty much any time of day or night with BT Infinity on Usenet using SSL.

Sell the frankly crap YouView Box for £200, the Home Hub for £30 and the 200Mbps HomePlugs for £35 and you're laughing. Sign up for the Vision deal for £4 per month and then get it for free - reduces the contract from 18 to 12 months. Sign up via a cashback website and save more. There was a £50 offer of a Nectar card, don't know if it is still running. Do all that and it becomes very cheap. You do need to go Infinity 2 to avoid traffic management.

Thanks very much for the info, I'll look into this in more detail I think. I held off for a while as my current provider recently dropped price from £17.99 a month to £14.99 a month but for the extra speed I can make up my costs by just ditching my never used lovefilm subscription!!

BT Infinity 2 isn't FTTP, its FTTC. If your after fttp then look for BTs inifinty 160Mb but if your cab/exchange aren't upgraded for fttc then its likely that fttp won't be supported either.
Alternative to BT (for fttc) are plus net and sky. Plus net support 76Mbps for £34 per month. No probs with them so far and no traffic management or download cap.
