Port 8080 and 8081 doesn't work.

Hi all,

I'm having difficulty connecting. My particulars are:
SABnzbd+ 0.4.4
OS: XP Pro, SE2
Install type: Windows Installer
Skin: Default
IPV6: Don't know. My puter is an HP business model about 3 to 4 years old.
Reproducable? Yes.

After installing, and dnlding one NZB file to downloads/watched, then repeated rebooting with port 8080 or 8081 selected, I keep getting the same message under connections, after I click on the bookmarked address: "SABnzbd+ 0.4.4 - Queued: 0.00 MB". I'm wondering if this address is correct?

When I click on the SABnzbd+ 0.4.4 icon in the start menu I can get to the main menu page, from which comes these logs:

Here is the latest entry in "Show Logging":

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

repeated rebooting with port 8080 or 8081 selected
What do you mean by this?
How do you close SABnzbd before rebooting?
How do you start SABbzbd after rebooting?

When you start SABnzbd, does the browser start automatically?
Which browser do you use?

The proper address is (in your situation):

Code: Select all

http://localhost:8080/sabnzbd

BH: Hi Shypike,

Thanks for answering my post. I appreciate your help.

What do you mean by this?
How do you close SABnzbd before rebooting?

BH: I don't know how to close SABnzbd. I thought that closing firefox, which I did, would close SABnzbd, but I wasn't sure. That is why I rebooted.

How do you start SABbzbd after rebooting?

BH: My guess is that when the saved SABnzbd tab is loaded, when I reopen firefox, SABnzbd is started.

When you start SABnzbd, does the browser start automatically?

BH: I have SABnzbd set to open firefox automatically.

Which browser do you use?

BH: Firefox.
The proper address is (in your situation):

Code: Select all

http://localhost:8080/sabnzbd

BH: When I enter this address, I get the "Page Load Error - Moxilla Firefox" page, which says:
"Failed to Connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at localhost:8080.
Though the site seems valid, the browser was unable to establish a connection.

    * Could the site be temporarily unavailable? Try again later.
    * Are you unable to browse other sites?  Check the computer's network connection.
    * Is your computer or network protected by a firewall or proxy? Incorrect settings can interfere with Web browsing."

Any other ideas? If you could step me through a process, I would be most grateful.

As an aside, do you know how I can keep my responses from being embedded in the quote?
        Sincerely, BlueHawk

Please browse through our Wiki site to get a basic understanding of SABnzbd.

SABnzbd is a separate program that needs to be started and stopped.
It works as a web server.
You start it by clicking the icon.
You stop it by using the "shutdown" function in the web interface.
SABnzbd does not stop when you close the web browser.

Thanks for answering, Shypike.
I read the wiki. The wiki does not account for users screwing up the program in unexpected ways. That is probably the case with me. The open and close headzup was useful.

After closing ALL the SAB tabs in firefox (by closing firefox altogether, as the SAB tabs kept reloading!) SAB at least opened from the start menu.

From my own research, "http://searchsecuritychannel.techtarget ... 09,00.html" I ran netstat and I got the following (part):
Active Connections

Proto  Local Address          Foreign Address            State              PID
  TCP    0.0.0.0:135            0.0.0.0:0                      LISTENING        984
  TCP    0.0.0.0:445            0.0.0.0:0                      LISTENING        4
  TCP    127.0.0.1:1025        0.0.0.0:0                  LISTENING        1132
  TCP    127.0.0.1:2124        127.0.0.1:2125        ESTABLISHED    3224
  TCP    127.0.0.1:2125        127.0.0.1:2124        ESTABLISHED    3224
  TCP    127.0.0.1:2126        127.0.0.1:2127        ESTABLISHED    3224
  TCP    127.0.0.1:2127        127.0.0.1:2126        ESTABLISHED    3224
  TCP    127.0.0.1:8080        0.0.0.0:0                    LISTENING        2264

Shouldn't there be an address in the "Foreign Address" column, for PID 2264 (SAB)?

And, from windows task manager:
"Image Name= SABnzbd.exe; PID=2264"

So why is SAB not dnlding the nzb file in the watched folder?

I'm not getting any warnings (which are enabled) from Windows Firewall.

Is there anything else you would like to know?
            Sincerely, Bluehawk.

Did you fill in a news server in Config->Servers?
If so, what did you fill in?
Is downloading paused?

The server is: "nntps.us.usenet-news.net", Port: 563, SSL=yes in Config > Servers.

I did not click on Pause, in Home. How would I know if dnlding is paused?

I'm confused at what the issue is here, so let me state one thing and ask a question:

When you open SABnzbd.exe it starts running in the background. It will also launch up your webbrowser for you (this was mainly added because people would just launch sabnzbd.exe they would expect something to happen, and think it didn't work).

Once sabnzbd.exe is opened, closing your web browser or tabs won't close down sabnzbd, it is a background process intended to keep running. The most common way people set up sabnzbd on windows is to place a shortcut to sabnzbd.exe in the startup folder (drag the one from your desktop to start>programs>startup) and turn off the automatic web-ui loading in config>switches. Then sabnzbd will launch on startup of your pc and you can access it using a bookmark of http://localhost:8080/sabnzbd

Now, has the item in your watched folder been picked up? ie has it disappeared from the watched folder and is now in the queue? To tell in the default template if it is paused it will say in the block of text at the bottom of the page.

Thanks for replying, Switch. I really appreciate your help.
I now have a much clearer understanding of how SABnzbd works. I like to keep things as simple as possible, so I prefer to launch SABnzbd manually. The idea of accessing the program through a web address is definitely different for me. I hope that has been sufficiently burned into my memory banks.

According to Windows Task Manager, SABnzbd is launched ok. I just checked the watched folder and the .nzb file I downloaded is still there. So I uploaded that file in the "add file" box in SABnzbd+ 0.4.4 > Home > Add new downloads. The Queued area at the bottom of the page is still showing 0.00/0.00 MB. I just clicked the Pause button, and I see what you mean. When I click Resume, the Pause message disappears. So, "Pause" is not the issue, it seems to me.
