Hello. Major problem. This program has redesignated my files!

Hello, I need a bit of help.
I have just encountered a major problem with this program.
I installed it on my Mac , I'm running Mountain Lion 10.8.2,
And after installing this program, it has designated all my .RAR files as Usenet "NZB" file-types,
and I am no longer able to unpack my RAR files!
[None of these files have anything to do with Usenet or SABnzbd, they are simply RAR files which have all received this designation. ]
I have never used this program either, and didn't even complete the setup wizard after installing it

This is very worrying..... :(

Thank you for any help!

I have totally uninstalled sabnzbd,
and uninstalled and reinstalled my unrar program,
but the problem remains...

I MAY have resolved this, until further notice :
[I may double post the above later if I haven't really solved it, but it appears to be good].

1. Uninstall SABnzbd [using appcleaner does the best job]
2. uninstall and reinstall your UNRAR app / rar unpacker
3. select one of the files that has been redesignated , and open file information ["command+i" will do this]
and in dropdown box for "always open this file with" select your unrar program.
This did not seem to work until I had completed the above 2 steps.

Unfortunately, I have accidentally deleted a LOT of very cool files, music and ebooks,
[stuff I have no idea if I will find again],
before I realized these were genuine RAR files and NOT NZB files ):
Not very happy about that. ):
Might be worth reporting this as a bug.

Might also be worth keeping this thread open until I'm sure this has fixed this problem,
but it seems okay for the moment, and I seem to be able to unpack RARs again.

SABnzbd does NOT associate itself with RAR files.
So I don't see how this can be a SABnzbd bug.

Okay. But it DID.... AND I am talking about on the first day of a fresh install of Mountain Lion [this is a new computer] , and with nothing else "weird" or dodgy installed.
The only other thing I had downloaded even remotely potentially dodgy was Vuze, only in the sense of the content which might be downloaded through it, which I hadn't even used, and [I'm sure you know is actually not actually dodgy as a program.]

It might not be supposed to,
but SABnzbd DID change the associations itself this way, and the only way to [seemingly] fix it, was to perform the steps I described above in the last post.
Now all my RARs are back to normal.

I have no reason to tell lies.

Surely 1+1=2 in this case.
I installed SABnzbd, everything goes wrong with my rars.
I uninstall it and do the other steps, and everything is fixed.

I'm sure this is a great client, but this was a terrible first experience.
Thinking back on what I deleted, it was some great stuff.

SABnzbd does register itself as an alternative program for zip and rar.
Meaning that if nothing else "wants" rar or zip files, SABnzbd will "do it".
SABnzbd doesn't do an awful lot with those files, except when they happen
to contain collections of NZB files.
On my system 6 programs offer themselves as candidates for ZIP and RAR.
This is the usual situation on OSX, many extensions have multiple candidates.
The icon is determined by the "default" extension and when there is only one
candidate, its icon will show up. That's the way things work on OSX.
I understand your frustration, but this could have happened after installing any other program
that is a candidate handler for RAR and ZIP files.
Deleting a bunch of files after judging them invalid solely on the basis of their icons is a bit rash.
I'm not trying to rub it in, but user accidents happen. To me just as well.
I just don't think its a bug in SABnzbd.
Why the original designer of the OSX UI for SABnzbd chose to add RAR and ZIP
is not clear to me. It's only useful in some limited scenarios.
