Need help trying to figure out whats going on here.

I've been using sabnzbd for a while now and this problem cropped up when I installed it on a server machine (Using Windows XP) in my house to handle all the downloads. 

I've got a 1TB drive in the machine and I've got several different locations on that drive for various content. 

I've noticed that sometimes things will get downloaded but not post processed all the way.

It'll get to its proper folder but end up in an _UNPACK_ folder fully extracted but never come out of there and be properly renamed.

I've tried digging through the log but I don't see anything that stands out, such as not being able to move the file for some reason.  The logging stops about 1 minute after it "hangs".

Any ideas?

Are these tv series and do you have "Enable TV Sorting" on? Does disabling that before a download fix the problem?

Yes, it does get stuck on TV series downloads.  I'll try turning that off.  Thanks!

What could cause that?  I know when I had sabnzbd set up on another machine the TV sorting and renaming worked great every time.  This is one of my favorite features of sabnzbd.     :D

**Update:

After thinking about it for a while I'm guessing bad characters for a windows dir name or file name would be culprit. I'll try experimenting with some other names and see what happens.

I've tried several different "formats" for the TV sorting and I can't seem to make it work.  The weird thing is I know I had this working when I was using the other machine to download stuff, it was using 4.3 I believe.  I always use the default templates for renaming.

Also with TV sorting completely off I still sometimes find folders with the _UNPACK_ tag in front of it, but at least it will continue on with the next download, this isn't a big deal.

Until this weekend, sabnzbd 4.3 worked fine including the post processing.
Then suddenly all new files were not post processed any longer, which leaves a _UNPACK_ directory with all downloaded files. 


Then I installed the latest version 4.4 and of course rebooted the system.
This however does not help, all files do not unpack any longer.

Who can help with this bug?

What does the logging tell you (see Connections page) ?
We need more details than this.

I have sent the information to your bugs email address.

I assume that the error occurs during the download stage, and leads to errors during post processing.
Almost everything that I download leads to this _UNPACK_ error.

I hope you can help.

You log is full of "missing article" warnings.
I think the post is just too old for your news provider.

No that can not be the case. The postings are almost never older than 2 days.
An then again, the problem did not occur before this weekend.
Since then all postings go wrong (like 10 out of 11 postings).
So therefore I suppose that the download is erroneous.

I would like to try newzbin, but somebody needs to invite me for that (I just read on their website).
So maybe you could help me with that?

A missing articles is reported as such by a news server.
So it really looks like a problem on the news server or you use a bad NZB file.
Email the NZB to our bugs account and we'll see what other servers think of it.

We have a newzbin invitation request topic in the "General Discussion" area.

One file you sent me is 62 days old and another one is incorrect (no proper NZB headers).
So only 3 of the 5 files can download properly with your provider.

Which operating system are you using?

Try starting up with the --clean option (or clean the cache folder manually).
(You'll lose your queue and history).

If that doesn't help there must be something wrong with your system.
Or the provider of course, I cannot test that.

I tried one of your NZB files, it downloads fine.

I just read in another forum that the provider has technical errors since this weekend.
There are other users that have the same problems.
Posts are incomplete. How can I clear all history, as you suggested? I only find something in the "general" tab within your program.

Weird that this does not lead to a _FAILED_ message in SABnzbd, but only a _UNPACK_ error?

Wouldn't it be an idea to create some functionality that for all missing parts a new "nzb-file" is created, that can then be retried to download from other news servers?

Futhermore, I was able to fix some of the _UNPACK_ failed downloaded posts, with QuickPar.
How come that SABnzbd was not able to repair these posts, where QuickPar was?

For the _UNPACK_ not being renamed:
This is likely from sabnzbd not being allowed to rename the folder to it's final name. Most common reasons are the folder is being accessed by a file indexer (XP/Vista indexer, Google Desktop) or a media library (XBMC, Mediaportal) or even your anti-virus.
Do you have any of these running, if anti-virus then what program?

Yes, I have Google Desktop and McAfee Security Center running.
Strange though that I did not have any _UNPACK_ directories before last weekend.
I am using this program a lot since several weeks now.

However, I will remove this folder from being indexed.
Do you know how I can prevent my anti-virus from messing this up?

Tell it not to scan where you put the final downloads.
Music and movies generally don't need scanning.
Some scanners even choke a really big files (like ISO or VOB).
