Network Connection dropping.

Howdy. I have a problem. Every time SAB starts and begins to download, my whole network connection shuts down. The file will be downloading for around 1-2 minutes then my whole network connection goes down. I have read other posts, and I will walk through what I have done to try and remedy.
SAB ver = 0.7.6
1. It only happens when SAB is downloading a file. I use newshosting.com as my newsgroup. I use their regular software, I have no problems. And have SAB set up to use the same info as the other software.
2. When the network connection goes down, I have NO outside connectivity. If I reboot my computer, and shut down SAB before anything starts downloading, everything is fine. When the network connection goes down, the connected icon in the tray stays active and says that there is connectivity, but I get nothing. No web, or ping to the outside world. I can still ping the gateway, and get to my routers config, but nothing outside of the router.
3. Every other device on the router is fine. 2 phones and a laptop connected by WiFi are fine, along with TiVo which is connected to the router by ethernet cable. As soon as I reboot, everything is fine on this computer.
I havent tried another file yet, stupid me, so I will try that as soon as I post this post. Thanks for any help, it is greatly appreciated.

So I started another download of another file, and it got to about a GB at full speed, then my connection shut off. Anyone have any idea?

Is your SAB machine connected via Wifi or ethernet-cable? If Wifi, try an ethernet-cable.
Furthermore
- how many newsserver connections? What happens when you lower the number of connections to 5 or 8?
- what is the bandwidth of your Internet connection, and which speed does SAB achieve?
- What happens if you limit SAB's bandwidth
- What is your network setup: just a modem, or also a seperate router?
An explanation might be that your router/modem/NAT-device gets overloaded by the high amount of traffic caused by SAB.

My computer is hooked up via Ethernet cable.
I have tried all different amounts of connections. 2,10,15 and 30. I always limit the speed, but have also tried it unlimited and it comes back the same. Network connection drops after about a minute. When I limit it I set it on 1.6 Mb a sec. I have an 8MB connection with Comunistcast. SAB reports that it is going at my throttled speed or around 1.8Mb/sec if I don't throttle.
I have a gamble modem hooked into my wireless router. Have tried different ports on router going to computer, and different cables. Still same.
Like I said in the first post, I can use newshosting's software, and everything works fine, it is just when I use SAB. I downloaded a 9Gb file with their software last night and it worked fine. I am at a loss here.

So:
- ethernet cable
- also happens with 2 connections and limited speed
- does not happen with other usenet downloading software on the same computer
If so, then I'm out of ideas.

That is correct. I also tried it on my Mac, with the other newsgroup software and it works fine there also. Just SAB on the HTPC. Pretty sad about this problem. I cannot finish automating my brand new HTPC without getting this up and running.

And did you try SABnzbd on the Mac?
BTW: you do know the difference between 'b' (bits) and "B" (bytes)? It's a factor 10. SABnzbd reports in Bytes, your ISP reports in bits. So if you want to limit bandwidth, divide by 10.

No, I have not tried SAB on the Mac. Yes, I know there is a difference in what the cable company says is your speed and what is the actual speed. Maybe I get more than 8Mbits. I will try SAB on the Mac tonight. Thanks for your help so far sander.

No, it's something else: If you ISP gives you 8 Mbps, that's 1 MB/s (or even 0.8 MB/s). Note the b versus B.

I didn't have time to install it on the Mac last night, but I did reinstall it on my HTPC. Still same problem, although I should have deleted the settings. I didn't have much time, so I just uninstalled and reinstalled. Hopefully I will have more time tonight.

So I have been messing around with SAB tonight, and I guess something I messed with fixed the problem. YAY. I switched to a non SSL port, and messed with connections, and it seemed to work. I put it back on SSL and kept the connections at 10 and now it is working. I will let it download overnight to make sure it is still working. Wife wants to watch some Fresh Prince of Bel-Aire. HA.
