100% CPU usage every few minutes

SABnzbd Version: 0.7.6 | smpl skin
Vista Business SP2(Fresh install, removed/turned off all useless bloatware)
Windows Installer
Avast
IPV6 - Not sure

I seem to be getting 100% CPU usage every few minutes, which then reduces download speed to about 200kbs, once the CPU drops back down, download speed then maxes out again. This happens without PAR2 or UNRAR working.

I have tried different cache amounts, server connections.

Complete and incomplete are different drives.

I'm using a Core2Duo 2.1 CPU with 3GB of ram.

Hard to tell.
Try the default skin instead of "smpl".
Are you using very large NZBs?

The NZB's size vary, just tested on a 10.8gb loaded by it's self. But was downloading 3gb ones before.

It seems to only happen when I max out my connection, or go close to it, 60meg/7.2 a sec.

Doesn't appear to be the cache as I can see that cycling up and down and not coinciding with the CPU spike. That is set to -1.

Will try a different skin.

There will be spikes every few minutes when SABnzbd flushes its admin to disk.
This suggests that such disk access causes a high CPU load, although I wouldn''t know why.
Do you use an external disk?
As an experiment: set the cache to 300M instead of -1.

Not sure if it was/is Sabnzb causing the spikes. Task Manager would show the spikes under the performance graph(100% CPU+system lock) but you wouldn't see an application 100% under application process tab. Would this indicate a memory or hard disk problem? They looked fine in the resource monitor to me only the CPU maxing out.

It seems Avast Anti Virus can cause problems on SSL ports, Reports of the Mail Shield blocking SSL ports. So have disabled that.

I use a local drive for in completes, an external usb 2.0 for completes, set cache to 300M, different skin/same skin. Spikes seem to have gone now. Will experiment with post processing going forward. Single core PAR2 etc.
