Greetings,

This is my first post, and I just wanted to say thanks to the developers of this program, it is quite an impressive program and definitely with the add-ons.

Here is my setup:

1) ASUS RT-N66U ver B1 wireless router, connected via the ethernet port.
2) 27in late 2011 iMac, with OSX 10.7.5 installed.
3) Using Firefox 16.0.2 as web browser.
4) Using Giganews as Usenet provider, currently on Platinum trial, using news.giganews.com and 50 connections.
5) Using SABnzbd 0.7.4
6) Currently registered with NZBMatrix (http://nzbmatrix.com/) and Newzbin (http://www.newzbin2.es) as full user access.
5) Also using the Mimo client software that works specifically with Giganews.

The Issue:

When attempting to use SABnzbd, I get very slow connections. However, when using the Mimo client, I max out my 10M connection, so I know that Giganews is allowing me to use the full extent of my connection.

I cannot get over 1M of data downloading with your software. I kept most of the settings at their defaults and only modified the ones that needed to be entered for server connections and #6 above.

I am able to add nzb's into the queue and they will download, but extremely slow, sometimes only like 200kbps.

I can provide additional settings from the configuration of SABnzbd, if you would like me to.

Any help would be appreciated,

First of all: don't use 50 connections.
Giganews maxes out at about 16 connections, beyond that the overhead kills performance.
Possibly your ISP is throttling some types of traffic.
Try with and without SSL and use alternative ports (like 563), check what you can use on the GN site.

I am brand new to Usnet, so why does Giganews attempt to sell the 50 connections but only maxes out at 16 or so? They do have a 20 connection pipe, would that be a better choice?

Something definitely seems funky because Gigagnews Mimo client is able to use my full bandwidth? Do you think that by adding the SABnzbd software to the OSX firewall would help out, or by adding the following two ports, 8080 and 9090, for port forwarding would help? Are there other ports that this software uses?

50? I read something else on http://www.giganews.com/support/#q5.2 :

How many connections to the servers are permitted?
Giganews allows up to 10 concurrent connections to our servers with all standard accounts, except 256 Bit SSL Enabled accounts which are allowed up to 20 connections.

So keep it to 10.

That is weird, because at this site, https://www.giganews.com/signup/, it says 50 connections for Diamond account. I will call to verify.

I see. But why bother now? Even with 10 connections you should get at least 10 - 40 Mbps (= 1 - 4 MB/s). So set it to 10, and test.

Those ports have nothing to do with Usenet, they're used by SABnzbd for its internal webserver.
Generally, firewalls don't need adjustment. They block or don't block.
On the majority of OSX systems it's no problem to go up to 10-11MByte/sec (equivalent to a 100Mbit/sec ISP connection).
Do you have a wired or wireless connection or both?
If both, it could be that SABnzbd is using the wireless connection.

I am using wired only, wireless is disabled.

What about if I was using Giganews VPN connection? Would that matter at all?

I don't know if that matters.
I have no reason to assume that it works positively.
One issue with SABnzbd is that it has no control over which network interface (physical or virtual)
outgoing connections (to the Usenet server) are routed.
It's a shortcoming of the communication library that we use.
It may be fixed one day.

Based upon my first post:

Does these services only serve up the nzb files, or do they have their own respective bandwidth caps?

Both are just indexers that deliver NZB files.
They have usage caps, but those have nothing to do with bandwidth.
