Hello!

I currently have the following gear in my home:

- MacBook Pro for work/surfing etc, no media consumption, except Music (via Spotify or iTunes Match)
- Zotac ZBOX HD-ND02 (Atom 330 w/ ION2, 2GB RAM, 20GB HDD) with Ubuntu 12.04 and XBMC pre-Frodo
- A 3TB external USB 2.0 hard drive (NTFS formatted), connected to the HTPC

I'm not satisfied with the performance of the HTPC when it is downloading something and I want to watch a 1080p movie.
Additionally, the 3TB hard drive is getting too small.

So what would you guys suggest I should buy to solve this problem:
- A new HTPC with internal space for 2 hard drives (e.g. the new AMD Trinity platform with a Micro-ATX case), so I can fit 6TB in there
- Keep the current HTPC and get a NAS, which downloads everything (can Synologys also run SickBeard and CouchPotato?)

I'm not sure if a NAS is actually useful, as I have no need to access the movies and TV shows on other devices than the HTPC.

You can run SAB and the other addons you mention on a nas with no problem. Installing and setting up is easy on most. Usually you just install a package to your Nas. I only have experience with Qnap Nas and my home built Unraid server. Something like this would work..http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822107063

Most low to mid range Nas products use low powered Arm based processors, so have a need to steam or trancode this Arm base unit can come up lacking. Higher on the food chain are the Intel Cpu based Nas products, the preform better at a higher cost. If you just want to run your SAB/CP/Sickbeard just about any Nas will do.
Do a bit of research and decide with brand/model you want to go with. I highly recommend the Qnap for the ease of insallI. Just download the qpkg to your desktop install form the Qnap gui and configure as you would normally.
Probably must the same with other brands.

You other option would be to get a more capable HTPC

I actually built a system, and it's over built. But it's also my router/firewall/gateway/webserver and anything else I think to do with it.

With 8Gb of memory. Add HD's to taste. I currently have a 3TB drive that's for TV (I hold things for a season, then wipe, usually) and 160Gb for Movies (it overflows to the 3TB a lot, but I don't hold movies long at all, usually). Plus the OS drive (140GB?), and random drive holding pictures. I want to replace the platter OS drive w/ an SSD, but don't have the $ to spend on something I don't need right now.

Rarely is this machine stressed. I've actually set it to alarm via text msg to me if the memory usage goes over 2GB, or the load goes 4 for over 5 minutes. That's how rarely it works hard.
