Updating SABNZBD on Synology DS207+ (DSM 3.1-1636)

I've had sabnzbd 0.5.4 running on my Synology DS207+ (DSM 3.1-1636) for a number of years and have always put off updating as I've never seen any instructions to do so. I've got sabnzbd+ helper installed and there is an option to upload a new version of SABnzbd+ by downloading the python sources file(xxx.tar.gz) from SABnzbd site and uploading it... but I recall trying it before and failing terribly.
... is it possible to update to the latest version (easily)?
OR
... is this a question best asked in the Synology forum?

The easiest way to upgrade is with a new package.
You should empty the download and post-processing queue before you upgrade.
The settings will be preserved.
There will be an 0.7.4 in a few weeks, so you might want to wait for that.
What kind of problems did you have with previous upgrades?

Thanks for a speedy response shypike.
I don't remember exactly what problems I had... I remember resetting back to default though and installing 0.5.4. I just want to avoid that
When you say a "new package" do you mean the tar.gz file from the SABnzbd site or a synology package (spk?)?

tar.gz, I have no business with the spk.

Another quick question on this topic... Can I update straight from 0.5.4 to 0.7.4 or should I update to a 0.6 version in between?

Make sure your download and post-processing queue are empty before upgrading.
(History is OK as long as no active items are still present).
BTW: you might want to wait for 0.7.4 Final.
