Hey Guys,

I have a small luxury problem with my SABnzb & my NAS (Synology DS212J + 4tb). My internet is to fast for the NAS to keep up, I have a 120 mbit/s internet connection but SAB can't utilize it fully because of processor limitation (I also run Sickbeard + Couch potato) of my NAS (according to the forums I read). Currently it can only download between 3-4 MB/s (24-32 mbit/s). As you can imagine I'd like to use the full bandwidth of my Internet connection.

In my opinion I have 2 options

1) Buy a new NAS with more processor speed.

2) Utilize an old server with sufficient processor, memory and disk space and then once unpacked (automatically) move all items to my NAS. I can buy old server dirt cheap, i.e. Dell PowerEdge 1750 2x2.4Ghz Xeon, 4gb, 2 x 36gb for €60 ($75).

Before I buy something new, can someone give me some advice on what to buy and if what I have in mind will work?

Is a faster speed that important for you?
A new box may very well saturate your line at the expense of all other traffic.
You can also have your PC/Mac run SABnzbd and have it auto-shutdown or brought into standby when done.

When running it 24x7, the old Dell server will cause a serious rise of your electricity bill,
so be sure to calculate that in.
(PS, there are more efficient programs than SABnzbd, albeit less versatile).

Yeah power bill forgot all about that, it's running 320 watts so thats about €500,- ($650) a year extra on top for just downloading quick...

Hmmm gotta rethink the strategy, I love SABnzbd, wouldnt trade it in though... Combo with SAB, Sickbeard and XBMC is greatly appreciated here by me and the GF...

What about option 1, Synology just released the DS213+, Dual Core 1.067 GHz with DDR3 512 MB... I'm seeing some (dutch) topics as well with kinda the same problems...

For what it's worth.
I have one older former WHS server, now running Linux.
Running on an older Atom it does 6 Mbyte/sec.
I have tried once on my central file server, a NetGear Ultra 6 with a better Atom
and that one does about 8-9 Mbytes/sec.
Both suck at doing serious repairs (slow).
