Under Switches/Queue, Sort by Age (Automatically sort items by (average) age) overrides sorting of rar files in job so that .rar preceeds .r00.

That's what it's supposed to do.
This is what our Wiki says:

When you use a server with a low retention time, you can choose to download the oldest parts of a job first. This way you have more chance on completing the download.
