Do missing articles matter?

Post by Apache77 »

Hi all.

Apologies for the painful noobishness of this question, but I've only been using Usenet and Sabnzbd for about a week. I've been nosing around the Wiki but I don't quite understand the terminology yet. So ...

Do missing articles matter? I noticed only recently in the Sabnzbd browser that some videos which were successfully downloaded have messages about missing articles. The size of the downloaded files appears to be correct, and playback seems OK after a quick sampling (I haven't yet had time to watch the entire video).

Should I expect videos with missing articles to fail? Or can I have confidence that if Sabnzbd downloaded the file, did quick-check and repaired it that it should work OK (assuming of course that the source video itself doesn't have errors)?

Thanks :)

UPDATE: Here's a screen grab of a file that I just downloaded. What do these messages mean, and should I be concerned, even though the file passes Quick Check and repair?

In general, up to a certain amount / percentage of missing articles, it can be repaired. That is: as long as the poster has included par2 files in the post.

In other words: normally a few missing articles are no problem.

Thanks sander.

So, generally speaking, unless Sabnzbd alerts me that an NZB has failed, I can assume that if the file was downloaded and repaired it probably works OK?

I'm not expecting Sabnzbd to be perfect, of course -- I just want to know what warning signs I should look out for in Sabnzbd, in case a file is likely to fail.

Correct! SABnzbd will tell if a download failed, for example "Repair failed, not enough repair blocks (1901 short) ".

If SAB says nothing, the download went OK and correct, and the file is perfect.

Awesome! That's what I was hoping, but the messages about missing articles and non-matching duplicates were making me nervous. Thanks again for your help :)
