Remote access setup from internet

Hi all, just started using usenet/sabnzbd. I've been looking for a solution to no avail and was hoping someone would be able to help (v 0.6.15).

I understand that you can access sabnzbd from the internet remotely. I've read about people using programs like dysdns to set up a static ip, but before that I wanted to test it without it.

So, from another computer off the local network, I tried putting my "external" ip to try to access sabnzbd (e.g. http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:8080/sabnzbd) but it times out. I've forwarded the ports on my linksys router and no firewall. Any input appreciated. Thanks!

Can you access SAB from another computer on your LAN using its private IP address (so something like 192.168.x.y or 10.x.y.z)?

If not, what's in SAB -> Config -> general -> "SABnzbd Host"? It should be 0.0.0.0 (or :: )

From where do you test the public IP address access? From a remote computer, or from your LAN? If from your LAN: not all routers can do the needed U-loop.

Do you want me test access? As a board admin I could lookup your IP (if that's OK with you).

Thanks for your help. I just tried resetting everything. Apparently even tho I forwarded the ports on my router it was closed. Once I reset it and redid the port forwarding, it actually became "open". Agh...spent so many hours trying to figure it out.

Works like a charm now, thanks! ;D
