Different sorting for different categories?

Post by dcuritois »

Can you have different sorting for different categories?

I mean I go to 'sorting' - enter something in the first 'sort string' but then it seems to affect all categories.

For each sorting tupe you can select the categories.
You cannot have a different Season Sort expressions per category.

And there are 3 types? Is it likely a future version of the program will allow different name for each category?

Ok, now I'm confused.

The first sorting is called "TV"

If we have 3 categories called CAT1,CAT2,CAT3

Can CAN1,2 and 3 have different strings somehow?

There are three different kinds of sorting methods.
"Season" for anything with a Season/Episode character.
"Generic" for non-seasonal stuff, like movies.
"Date" for sorting material that has dates in its title.
For each Sort type you can pick which categories will match.

However when you have to TV series that you want sorted,
they will need to use the same sort expression from the "Season Sort" section.
I don't think we'll complicate sorting even more by allowing multiple sort expressions per type.

I just wanted different storing for different categories (ie the items labeled categories)

Guess I'll have to find something else to do that then.

I'm not sure this would be "overly complicated" for the user.

Having one set of files that is labeled "[foo]Series.Episode.ext" and another that is labeled "Series.Episode.ext" breaks sorting for one of the groups.

Here's to hoping the feature request is reconsidered.

Have you looked at using SickBeard as a front end (and partial back-end)?
It specializes in handling TV series.
