SABnzbd causing full system crash on OS X 10.6.8

Hi guys
Been trying to track down the nature of this problem for some time but no joy.
I'm running SAB 0.6.15 on OS X 10.6.8 (installed via the .app). I have Symantec Endpoint installed for AV and the standard OS X firewall enabled although LittleSnitch is also installed. I am not using IPv6 to my knowledge.
Although the issue does not seem to be reliably reproducible, it seems to occur (but not always) when a major java event (eg an applet) loads in Chrome. Then if the crash occurs, it starts with Chrome becoming completely unresponsive. SAB appears to be carrying on but I usually pause it at this stage. If I have anything else up like music playing or a video running, this carries on as normal although aside from that, the whole front end of OS X seems to completely fail - I cannot switch windows, force close apps or even shut down the computer without holding down the power button.
Todays example of this was it crashing at the exact point I tried to load the live chat feature on this site (which for some reason has banned me, no matter what nickname I choose - is my IP blocked?).
Any help would be appreciated.
