32bit or 64bit?
The more info you give, the easier it is to help :)

Just completed some tests on Ubuntu Server 10.10 32 bit.
Out-of-the-box (no updates) with apt-get instal sabnzbdplus (0.5.4) and
then installing 0.5.6 manually.
I have the article-cache set to -1 (unlimited) in Config->General.

It runs under VMWare on a mediocre Windows box.
A 20G job is happily downloading at about 7MByte/sec.

Update:
After apt-get upgrade it's even faster.

I am running it on Ubuntu 64-bit.

At the moment it's download just fine but with long queues it goes a bit nuts with the download speed.
You mean installing 0.5.6 manually from 0.5.4 via SABZNBD once it's installed?

If I keep having issues then I will try the -1 for cache and if this still won't solve it then I will reinstall SABNZBD completely ;)

Thanks Shypike

The difference between 0.5.4 and 0.5.6 is small and there's
nothing that would explain the speed difference you see.
Just make absolutely sure that your "cache" and "admin" folders are not on the RAID.
I assume you use the 32bit version of Python.
We do not support the 64bit version due to missing C-modules.
The modules will be automatically replaced by Python code, but at a performance penalty.
